Cold and dead on the tongue. Other oat and feedbag malts. Some hops rounding the end. Pretty good, but I’m not sure I would actually get this again. The initial taste was really off putting. Once that first sip is done, it does get better. I’d suggest letting this warm up. garthicus (1310), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Aroma: Toffee - alcohol - malt. Flavour - coffee and malt, quite thin, I didn’t overly care for it. Beerman6686 (1292), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 23, 2009 This one poured a murky light brown color with an off white head. Aroma was lightly roasted malts, and light coffee. Flavor was smooth not burnt coffee upfront and then a sweet dark fruit finish. This one tasted more like a coffe abbey double than a dopplebock to me. Interesting tho. awaisanen (1279), Irvine, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 13, 2007 From a 12oz Bottle. Purchased at Bello Vino, Ann Arbor MI, 11/27/07. Pours a mostly transparent, ruddy tea color with a thin layer of quickly dissipating, filmy off-white head. Aromas of medium roast coffee beans and light dry chocolate. The coffee notes definitely have some of that dried up, damp coffee grounds character that I’ve obtained everytime I’ve added crushed beans directly to the secondary. It’s not offensive, but distinct to many coffee beers. Some light strawberry esters add some subtle complexity. Medium full bodied, softly carbonated mouthfeel. Needs a bit more carbonation and attenuation, although some of the malt sweetness keeps the coffee roast bitterness and acidity from being too strong. The coffee flavors are prominent in the finish, bringing out this burned Starbuck’s French Roast flavor. The middle of the palate brings out some enjoyable prune and pumpernickel bread notes. Finishes roasty, with a slight alcoholic sting. jrob21 (1275), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 23, 2008 Thanks jtw. Pours a murky, muddy brown color with a decent but quickly dissipating offwhite head. Aroma of caramel malt and some roasted coffee. Flavor is caramel up front giving way to a chalky chocolate flavor. Faint coffee flavor as well. Medium bodied but quick on the finish. One dimensional in the flavor and the coffee doesn’t come through quite as much as it’s name would imply. Not that that is a bad thing just a little unexpected. drfabulous (1274), Columbia, Missouri, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 3, 2009 Taste: Little to no coffee. Lots of Doppelbock. Sweet and malty Dopplebock. But when I go to drink, then I get the aroma of coffee in my nose. Nice, but not far off a bock in general. I want coffee in the taste as well. Had on tap, and I should probably revisit soon. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 16, 2009 12oz - Aroma is different than I expected, leather, dank coffee, toffee and burnt malts. Pours dark ruby with a small head and great lacing. Flavor is burnt coffee with a mean aftertaste. Palate is dry and sticky. Not so good. JaBier (1261), Capital City, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 14, 2009 12oz bottle. Cloudy amber/brown with a big tan head. Malty aroma with some fruit, coffee and unfortunately some vegetable notes. Flavor is devoid of the veggies; just a nice coffee and caramel blend. Not bad.
