This beer had good maliness to it. Light dark fruit and grape juice notes followed by a nice fresh coffee finish. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 12, 2009 Wow, who in the what now? At face, this sounds like an interesting and maybe appropriate idea... Pours brown to garnet with a thin offwhite head. The nose is sweet with malt and a touch of coffee and chocolate. Changes the character a bit. Very doppelbocky, don’t get me wrong, with just a touch of coffee. Lightly creamy. Creamy, but lighter body. The flavor is in line with the nose, though perhaps just a bit astringent. Sweeter, maybe a bit of alcohol, some light roast. Lingering toasty bitterness. shawnm213 (999), South Bend, Indiana, USA

Aroma is of caramel, COFFee, alcohol, caramel, Coffee, alcohol, and brown sugar. Finish is coffee and alcohol. Smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 3, 2008 Got this 12oz bottle as an extra in a trade with mtdshn. Thanks Mark! Pours a translucent, nearly opaque deep brown with a thin cream colored head. If not for the tight bubbles you might think it was a cappuccino. Very sugary aroma that has a bit of nuts and brown sugar and faint coffee. Flavor is very sweet, a little sour with flavors of brown sugar, caramel and coffee. The coffee flavors are only a compliment and certainly aren’t the whole show. Finish has some lasting coffee bitterness and is fairly dry. If not for the name it might be possible to miss the coffee component of this beer entirely. That said, this was still enjoyable. jtw (944), farmington, Michigan, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 8, 2007 12 oz bottle, pours a clear brown with a light beige head. aroma of mostly coffee but some bock-like elements as well - sweet malt and clean germanic yeast characteristics as well. malty flavor, balanced profile of coffee, chocolate, dark raspberry, very reminiscent of a coffee porter. not thick, but not thin, with a lightly noticeable alcohol element. an enjoyable beer. weeare138 (936), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA

What a kickass label with a two-headed goat version of Lucifer(reminiscent of Slayer’s Reign in Blood & Show No Mercy album covers...but with gnarly bat wings - actually Baphomet as the designer, frankenkitty, pointed out to me.) sitting in a flame thrown with the extended two fingers and thumb signifying the anti-trilogy. On the forearm is tattood, "Ferment". An obvious showing that this Doppelbock is not the typical nod to Jesus, as the original Salvator was when the monks brewed it. No friends, this is something wicked with darkness brooding...and brewing for that matter. A coffee infused Doppelbock. I give these guys a lot of credit for trying something other than a coffee stout, or porter.
Appears a dark amber with a light tan head that slowly fades into a a mild cap of fluff. Scattered lacing is left all around the glass.
Smell is of smokey java, nuts, caramel, and vanilla with a mild raisin aroma buried behind the other goodness.
Taste is of the same aromas with some smokey java pulling ahead of the typical doppelbock toffee flavors that are hidden way in the background.
Mouthfeel is medium boded, semi-sweet up front, with a dry, roasty java finish.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 9, 2008 Poured from a 12oz bottle and served in a dimpled mug. This dopplebock poured a murky, ruby brown hue with a short-lived head of tan foam that settled into a lasting ring. A small amount of slippery lacing was left behind. The aroma had a very pronouced note of cold pressed coffee. A solid dose of caramel and dark fruit also made an appearance. The flavor contained a smooth coffee note (not bitter like alot of other coffee-infused beers), dark fruit skins, caramel, and a hint of baker’s chocolate. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and had light carbonation. Filling for sure, but yet quite drinkable. Very enjoyable. Nice to see the guys at Dark Horse give a lager a try. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 25, 2008 Pours a brownish color with thin off white head. Aroma is roasted coffee, sweet malt, and a light spiciness. Taste is intense roasted coffee with the sweet malt and light fruitiness coming in the end. Easy drinking if you are into coffee. It is funny how well coffee goes with a doppelbock compared to a stout.
