Smell is of sweet maltiness and nice strong coffee. Taste is about what I’d expect from the name. Rich and malty as expected from a dopplebock with a nice coffee flavor as well. Finishes more malty with little coffee flavor at the end. Pretty nice and drinkable. Medium to slightly rich body with good carbonation. Fairly noticeable tartness in the finish that detracted somewhat.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 17, 2009 Fleck ridden cherrywood with a thin tan head, slowly fading leaving a ring of lace. Aroma of deep roasted coffee, sweet roasted malt and a touch of alcohol. Taste of coffee, dark roasted malt, dark pitted fruit and malt. Semi acidic in nature with mild roasted malt bitterness. Not overly sweet. LtDan (522), Los Angeles County, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 17, 2009 Appearance: Pours a dark auburn red with no head. A small amount of light can pass through, and with it you can see rising bubbles.
Aroma: Spent coffee grinds and roasted malt.
Taste: Strong black diner coffee, bread crust, pumpernickel, and slightly sour cherry. The coffee flavor linges well past the sip, and it’s pretty much all you taste for the rest of the beer.
Mouthfeel: Full and thick.
Overall: I didn’t care for the mix of coffee and doppelbock. WabashMan (817), Noblesville, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Pours a clear, reddish brown with a thin and quickly fading tan head. Nose is dominated by the coffee, as is the flavor. Despite being somewhat one dimensional, this isn’t a bad beer at all. I’d describe it as having a more pure coffee taste than you might get out of the many stouts that feature coffee flavors. And, in that respect, it’s tasty and interesting. This might make for a suitable alternative to an imperial or sweet stout...if you wanted something a bit lighter. blipp (1716), Newark, New Jersey, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 6, 2009 Draft. Pours dark brown with an off white head. Roasty and ground coffee aroma. The flavor is malty with a bunch of coffee and a light sweetness. Decent. Trev (887), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 5, 2009 pours brown with amber highlights, nice tight medium foamy tan head.
Aroma is strong coffee and roasted malt.
body is a little thin, but a nice coffee flavour carries over from the aroma. Malt sweetness under that. Some maple to the sweetness perhaps.
Very smooth and not a hint of the alc.
A dangerous drinker if somewhat one dimensional in flavour. allendodd (60), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 1, 2009 pours a dark yellowish brown with a thin and dissipating head. The dopplebock’s sweetness nicely balances the roasted coffee bitterness. I’m sort of surprised at how much I’m not disliking this. It’s not bad. The flavors are truly the coffee overall. But there is plenty of sweetness to mellow it out. the mouthfeel is not especially coarse in spite of the coffee bitterness and there is a slight alcohol warmth on the way down. I like this enough that I am looking forward to finishing the rest of the four-pack. Jblauvs (605), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 1, 2009 Walnut pour with a thin offwhite head. Aroma is pure coffee grounds and some roast. Flavor is a combination of nice malty bock flavor and some very intense coffee roast. A bit warm going down, I rather like this take on a doppelbock. It retains its relatively clean but deep maltiness and takes on a new intensity with the addition of coffee. Nice one Dark Horse theisti (1689), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 1, 2009 12 oz bottle purchased by my Dad for me at Zipps in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Pour is a murky amber and brown with a nice two inch light tan head. Head falls slowly with nice lacing. Aroma of stale coffee and roasted barley. There is a nice fruit and milk sweetness byond the roast of the malt and coffee. The aromas are nice, but the stale one dimensional coffee aroma detracts some. Taste is the cherry fruit sweetness up front, followed closely by the office coffee and finishing with a nice roastiness. Palate is medium, sort of a husky unfiltered mouth feel, with nice bright carbonation and a longish sweet finish. The after taste also reintroduces the roast flavors. Overall, I really enjoy the Dopplebock elements of this beer; the coffee elements, not as much.
