Shag (1767), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Jun 4, 2008 A murky brown color with a small beige head. The aroma contains some caramel, toffee, brown sugar, and chocolate. The flavor contains alot of caramel along with some toffee, chocolate, and brown sugar. The mouthfeel is rather syrupy with a sweet finish. Overall a pretty good beer.
WeeHeavySD (1699), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Aug 19, 2008 12oz, can’t tell if this was a gift or via trade all I know is I didn’t buy it myself. Pours orangey brown with a tan ring. nose is very much dopplebocky with a good amount of coffee. Taste is sweet, malty and coffee infsed. Tasty coffee dopplebock. HogTownHarry (3175), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Aug 12, 2008 Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy and garthicus, via trade with Boutip. Deep mahogany pour, hazy, smallish frothy off-white head. Dry roast nutty malt aroma, acidic and herbal - the taste introduces hazelnut coffee notes with some tart fruit and cream - really simple and appealing. Somewhat light bodied, solidly acidic, a nice long bitter/roasty finish. Very, very drinkable. blankboy (2562), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 11, 2008 Bottle (12oz) shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a very deep ruby with an average size diminishing off-white head. Aroma’s malty, a bit nutty along with some toffee and light herbal hops. Flavour’s malty with coffee, a touch of smoke, toffee and light bitter finish. Average bodied. Pretty good. Tmoney99 (3503), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Aug 7, 2008 Draft sample at MBGF Summer08. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy light brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy fruit, toasted malt and nutty aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium to heavy roasted sweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations where met. BBB63 (3767), La Porte, Indiana, USA Jul 30, 2008 2008 MiBGF: Carmel red with an okay head. The aroma has notes of toffee, herbal hops, apple, and hint of mint and coffee, some yeasty esters. The taste has sweet malt and slightly fruit tones with a roasty finish and some coffee bitterness. Does not taste like a normal dopplebock that is for sure. The mouth feel is oily and smooth. I am disappointed by this beer, not at all what I expected and does not seem to mesh very well.
