Dec 10, 2008 Pours a thick motor oiy pitch black color with a tiny brown lacing. Aroma of chocolate syrup, roasted malt and cocoa powder. Taste is thick and slightly syrupy with hints of roasted malts, cocoa powder, chocolate syrup and lactose. Slightly sweet, but superb. Very similar to Bells Expedition Stout.

Dec 8, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pitch black color. Thin, bubbly, tan head. Aroma of chocolate, licorice, and roasted notes. Flavor is nice and silky smooth. Chocolate notes up front lead to a smoky ending. Finish is slightly bitter. Very low carbonation and the alcohol is well hidden. Nice beer.

Dec 1, 2008 Pours opaque black with a pretty but short lived brown head. Bold complex and robust nose with lits of cocoa, espresso, fudge, berries, licorice, and tobacco. Very enticing. The flavor is a great blend of milk and dark chocolate and some minor smokey roasted notes. The fine carbonation gives the beer of a gritty mouthfeel with some oilyness.

Nov 28, 2008 12 oz bottle courtesy Eithcubes. Pours inky black with a thin dark tan head. Big roasted grain, coffee, chocolate malt and dark fruit aroma very complex. Nice thick body with lots of the roasted grains, coffee grounds, chocolate taste going on with hints of raisin and plum. Amazing complexity, finishes with big coffee and chocolate notes that makes you keep coming back for more. Really good.

Nov 27, 2008 12-oz. Thanks, SuzyGreenberg! Jet black. Headless, laceless. Huge salty, meaty, coffee nose. Creamy medium body. All kinds of things happening all at once on the mid-palate: beef jerky, campfire, salt, bacon, chocolate, coffee. Enormously complex and confusing, but fun and harmonious at the same time. Doesn’t make sense on paper, but this is truly one of those great beers that’s far better enjoyed than discussed. Fruits, smoke, meat...can’t reconcile it all. Big salty, smoky beer with a long salty finish. Great stuff.

Nov 19, 2008 Draught at GABF 2008. Black - brown head. Coffee, licorice, burned, berries, light lactic, chocolate, smooth body, nice hoppy, oily, sweetness. Hides the alcohol very well....

Nov 15, 2008 Bottled via trade. This was a super easy drinking Impy stout. First off, 12 ABV are you kidding me? NEVER would have guessed that from the aroma or flavour. Very well hidden. Pours like used motor oil that slicks your glass. Pleasant aroma of chocolate and malt. Flavour is dominated dark bitter chocolate but there is some sweetness in the finish. Very well done.

[ Courtesy of Secret Santa ]. Clear dark black color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, chocolate, roasted, browen sugar, light alcoholic, burnt notes. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily - creamy, carbonation is soft. (160808)
