Had at PP bottle shop with Justin and Sean. Pours flatish, but a small tan on other pours. Black. Thick body. Some roasty and ashy flavors, but very mellow, as if the bottle had some nice age on it. Possibly a little sweet. Pretty decent. Acknud (794), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA

Pours one of the darkest black stouts I have ever seen- no doubt, this is darker in color than Darklord. Head is thin and almost brown it is so dark. Aroma is nutty, with tons of dark chocolate, anise, and hints of tar and molasses. Great full chocolate malt flavor, with some dry roastiness and just a hint of black burnt malts- I bet carafa III is also in there. Smooth and silky in the finihs. This new version is just as good as I remember the original to be. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 27, 2008 Pours black like oil, with just the thinnest brown head showing up at the end of the pour. Smells of black licorice, dark roasty chocolate beans, dark malt, and some dark fruits as well. Very rich and thick palate. The alcohol was apparent, but not overwhelming. Really thick burnt malt and roasty chocolate flavors penetrating deeply. Really nice imperial stout, really enjoyed the mouthfeel and the roasty flavors. These guys can really make some great stouts. Full of Sesame Oil flavors, yet full of malty goodness. The stuff pours a motor oil black with very little head. You can taste: coffee, toffee, chocolate, sesame, soy sauce. An excellent IRS. Started sipping when cold, and it just got better as it warmed. Petrucci914 (601), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA

(you are the man, Eugene) - viscous, inky black pour, that fails to kick up a head, but MAN is it black - huge chocolate aroma, smells a lot like pudding, actually, with some touches of sweet cream, coffee, roasted malt, a kind of woody character - smooth, slick, oily mouthfeel - quite chocolaty sweet (reminds me a bit of ST Chokolat), but tempered by roasted coffee bean and tobacco notes - the pudding-like aspect of the aroma is quite present - a nice balance of bitterness and sweetness - very faint plum and anise - the alcohol is well-masked, but the thick body betrays it’s strength - a quality imperial that I wish I had more of. hophead75 (1964), Boonton, New Jersey, USA

Aroma- very chocolately with moderate roast, molasses, and a touch of alcohol. Taste is roast, chocolate, molasses, and hints of dark fruit. medium bodied: coating on the palate but not thick. Finishes with a long lasting roasty bitterness, and a bit of alcohol. Dark Horse certainly knows how to brew a good stout.
