Bottle courtesy of Footbalm. Thanks, Eric! I’ve been holding on to this one for some time, and figured it was about time to partake. Dark chocolate aroma with some sweetness evident. No coffee evident. Completely opaque body that has a small, light brown head with a ring that lingers. Rich, chocolate flavor that has a considerable hop profile, but like most ’’hoppy’’ imp stouts, you have to be paying attention to notice it until it warms up. Although there is clearly some strength to this brew, it hides the 12% to make it taste more like 8.5%. Is this a ’’wow’’ stout? No. Perhaps I sat on it too long (6-7mos) as I detect that the carbonation and crispness of character is fading a bit by mid-glass. Still, a very good brew.

Dec 6, 2009 Pours black with thick brown head and lots of lacing meduim to almost thick body with aromas from roasted malts,light coffee and choclates taste is very bold like any IRS I have grown to be a big fan of dark horse stouts and this one does’t let me down

Nov 29, 2009 Bottle, about a year or so of age on this one. Pours a solid black, small, forced tan head that dissapates rather quickly. Roasted malt, chocolate and a subdued touch of hops in the background of the aroma. Creamy, roasted malt, sweet chocolate and again a touch of hops in the flavor profile. Great mouthfeel, thick and kinda oily and a slightly bitter finish, really well done.

Nov 24, 2009 Aroma is reminiscent of Surly Darkness, a lot of sweet malt over something of a surprisngly robust hop presence. Caramel, raisin, vanilla, and the aformentioned hop sweetness are key. Apperance is great, black, minimal head, would rank a bit higher with a bit more frothy goodness. Taste is heavy cloying sweetness, lightly bitter, and if it is possible to taste thick, this is it. Palate is appropriately thick and near flat, just where I want an impy stout. Full body, thick feel, soft carbonation, long finish. Yes this is my first review using the assistance, so bear with me. Overall a good beer, though a bit on the sweet end of my taste for imperial stouts.

Nov 12, 2009 i drank this beer 2 days ago. right now, i’ve already had 3 Brooklyn Black Chocolate’s, soo, yeah.. the most striking thing about this beer that i recall was the appearance. beautiful head, lace, dark, opaque, mmmm. great overall taste, but the appearance on this fucker was outstanding.

Nov 2, 2009 This is one dark beer. Pours black with a rapidly dissipating dark brown head. Aroma is chocolate liqueur with hints of licorice and vanilla. The flavor is a bit molasses like, rather sweet, but not too cloying.

Nose is extremely heavy with roasted grain, burnt sugar, and molasses.
Taste is bitter dark chocolate, a little thin, acrid, charred and cheap espresso.

Oct 25, 2009 12oz bottle. Bottle thanks to Pantanap. Pours pitch black with a thin thick tan head. Nose is heavy roast and wood with hints of bourbon. Rather fruity character with hints of wood, vanilla and nut. Slightly smoky as their other stouts have been. Very complex, well attenuated. This is a really fantastic imperial stout.
