Really very dark brown, nearing black, with a fluffy head reminiscent of a pile of cocoa powder. Mostly sweet aroma, but with a healthy dose of roasted malt and light coffee. Brown sugar, caramel, hot chocolate, maple syrup, pumpernickel bread and some mild, Earthy hop character. The body is smooth and creamy, but lacking a touch in heft. The sweet malt is there in the flavor, but the roasted bitterness really takes over and dominates in the mouth. The balance is nice and the alcohol is extremely well hidden. A nicer beer than I was expecting.

Tasted blind next to Founders Porter. A darn fine porter, but next to the Founders it pales a little bit. The mouthfeel on the Founders is better, and a little roastier-oxidized. Nonetheless, totally deserving of its excellent reviews.

12 oz. bottle from City-Wide in South Bend- thanks shawnm213 for getting it for me. Pours such a dark brown motor oil-like color, near black, with a small brown head that leaves a ring along the edge. Aroma of chocolate, hazelnut, roast, hops, coffee, peat, and dark fruits. Flavor is dark chocolate, coffee, roast, nuts, dark fruits, hops, burnt toast, brown sugar, and earthy notes. Medium bodied, with an oily, syrupy mouthfeel and roasty finish. Lingering roast aftertaste. Great porter.

12oz bottle. Black pour with a thin tan head that leaves a ring. Nice roasted malt, chocolate and coffee aroma. Flavors are the same with hints of dark fruit and molasses. Smooth and sharp bitter finish - both dry and astringent.

Pours black as night, with virtually no head. Roasty chocolate and coffee teases the nostrils and tongue, with a hop kick and smooth finish. Not as creamy as I expected, but overall it improves as it warms.

12 oz bottle. Poured opeque black in color with a small tan head that left little lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, toffee, coffee. Tastes of roasted coffee, cream, oats, chocolate, fairly sweet. Nice lingering sweet chocolate, and coffee in the finish. Quite nice.
