Dark Horse Rose Hip Infused Belgian Tripel

draft from sheffield’s in chicago. this was pretty miserable. rose doesn’t belong in beer, because it just makes it taste like dark candy and potpourri. more of the latter. and kinda cherry. and chemically. but not really beerish. pretty syrupy and thick. soapy. lousy.

Snifter glass at the brewput (late May, 2008). Pours a light orange with a small white head. Reminds me of the Dark Horse’s Sapient Trip Ale, but with more punch hence the snifter glass size. The taste is sweet with strong alcohol feel. the flavor/finish was donimated by the rose hips. Love getting opportunity to try unique small batch offerings like this. Excellent choice for a tasting, but overall the beer isn’t nearly as drinkable as the Trip Ale. Even with the small glass definitely could feel this one afterwards.

Snifter @ Brewpub: Radiant orange-rose pour, with thin, bubbly, and frothy head. Aroma is sweet and citrusy with floral overtones. Flavor is classic tripel, yeasty and sweet, highly carbonated, potent, with a floral finish reminiscent of premium rose soap. Would definitely order again, even though this is not my style usually.
