Commercial Description:
Why is the Grim Reaper holding a mailbox? Well, that mailbox is from a dead Dark Horse beer. The Grim Reaper better know as "Death" was quite fond of our classic Sapient Summer Wheat Ale. When we changed it into a Belgian Style Triple, Death thought it would only be appropriate to bring something from that beer into this beer. So he picked the mailbox, and we weren’t about to argue with him. You can say what you want about him, but that Death sure has a big heart. So anyway...we brewed this beer with a Trappist yeast strain so it is very traditional. The flavors are incredibly complex with notes of mild fruit and finishes with a bit of clove. Although this beer is higher in alcohol it is very smooth and finishes dry on the palate.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from Riley’s Wines of the World in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a hazy golden amber colored brew with an average sized off-white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma of golden grain malt, candi sugar, a hint of sweet apples and some clove. Taste is full bodied, flavors of golden grain malt, candi sugar, some yeast, banana esters and a hint of clove. Finish is semi-sweet with some fruity profile and Belgian yeast aftertaste.

Hazy golden color with very little of a white head. Fruity nose with apples, some banana and spices. Honey sweetness with a bready backbone, some banana, apple, tangerine fruitiness and a clove spice. Yeasty, as you would expect, and the alcohol only becomes noticable as it warms.

Bottle from Archer Liquors. Pours pale amber with no head. Aroma is rather sugary. Medium plus body with mild carbonation. Flavor is tripel like, but turns rather honey/caramel. Fruit and clove are rather mild. Despite the sweet there is bitter. Also a hint of heat. With a bit of time I could buy bubble gum. Not terrific, but a pretty good beer.

nose is ultra juicy fruits including a near pinapple note and some spiciness as well that finishes with a hit of booze. body is cloudy even by dark horses standards, looks thick like liquid caramel. flavor is more fruits with huge round juicy center that makes my mouth water. big yeasty finish with good bitterness to boot on the way out.

BPW #26 Served on tap at Dark Horse Brewing Company. Appearance is a slightly cloudy pale orange hue with a small off white head. Nose is very bready that leads into flavors that are smooth creamy bread tones with a hint of clove.

Bottle. Pours slightly cloudy amber with a half finger white head that faded into a film. The nose is malt and spicy yeast. The taste is banana bubblegum, light chocolate, spice and caramel malt. Medium semi-creamy mouthfeel. Good beer.
