Commercial Description:
Why is the Grim Reaper holding a mailbox? Well, that mailbox is from a dead Dark Horse beer. The Grim Reaper better know as "Death" was quite fond of our classic Sapient Summer Wheat Ale. When we changed it into a Belgian Style Triple, Death thought it would only be appropriate to bring something from that beer into this beer. So he picked the mailbox, and we weren’t about to argue with him. You can say what you want about him, but that Death sure has a big heart. So anyway...we brewed this beer with a Trappist yeast strain so it is very traditional. The flavors are incredibly complex with notes of mild fruit and finishes with a bit of clove. Although this beer is higher in alcohol it is very smooth and finishes dry on the palate.

yellowish-golden color, moderately cloudy, thin almond-colored head. aroma is very fruity, lots of lemon, some caramel, some alcohol, and decent spice (slightly bubblegummy) notes. flavor is very yeasty, with some spiciness. Not nearly as much fruitiness, but instead, a lot more alcohol.

Bottle: Pours light amber with no head. Aroma of oranges, honey and floral hops. Flavor of fruits and hops along with a hint of the alcohol. Very drinkable and good.

12oz. bottle. Pours a goldeny haze. The aroma is the best part of this beer: the whole nose is filled with the smell of wild flowers, orange zest, honey. Tastes of orange, coriander, honey, sweet malt. Lingers very long on the palate, beginning with flowers and ending with only a malty taste of alcohol. Overall pretty good tripel, despite the heavy lingering alcohol taste.

Drank this on draft at the brewery in the summer of 07 at Dark Horse. Pours a golden orange body with a fluffy white head. Aroma and flavor is hoppy with some notes of belgian spice, the etoh comes through fairly noticeably. Not a huge fan.

12oz bottle that has been cellared for close to a year. Goldish orange color with a pretty little head. Aroma is a flour slurry, light fruit, flowers, sweet, lightly kilned malt, a touch of lemon, and some clove. Taste is sweet malt, light fruit, readily apparent alcohol, & pepper. Very "big" in the mouth, even into the finish though it is tempered by the alcohol.

Fizzy, hazy golden beer, with moderate, lasting lace - semi-earthy, occasionally musty/musky aroma, w/strong honey-ish sweetness, some banana, strong spices and floral character - typically high, american tripel sweetness - a strong herbal bitterness tries its best to temper this, but the sweetness persists - wild flower character and alcohol warmth arrive late, and the beer dries out a little, as a spicy character couples well with the alcohol - finishes better than it starts, but still falls into the same traps most american tripels do.

Hazy orange pour with a thin white head. Aroma is heavy sweet malts. Flavor is up front sweet malt and cream with cherry, clove, and some orange peel. Finishes on the sweeter side. Bitterness peaks at a 2. I hit the ABV spot on with my guess.
