Commercial Description:
Why is the Grim Reaper holding a mailbox? Well, that mailbox is from a dead Dark Horse beer. The Grim Reaper better know as "Death" was quite fond of our classic Sapient Summer Wheat Ale. When we changed it into a Belgian Style Triple, Death thought it would only be appropriate to bring something from that beer into this beer. So he picked the mailbox, and we weren’t about to argue with him. You can say what you want about him, but that Death sure has a big heart. So anyway...we brewed this beer with a Trappist yeast strain so it is very traditional. The flavors are incredibly complex with notes of mild fruit and finishes with a bit of clove. Although this beer is higher in alcohol it is very smooth and finishes dry on the palate.

12oz bottle aquired in multiple trades. Poured a deep and slighlty hazy golden color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of yeast, spices, apples, and pears. Tastes of apples, candi sugar sweetness, various spices, yeast, and bananas. On the sweet side and high in carbonation.

Bottle shared by Crosling. Poured a clear golden color with a moderate off-white head that left a slight amount of lacing. Aroma of yeast, bubble gum, and some light fruit. Flavor consists of a lightly sweet entry that leads into a yeasty middles with hints of bubble gum, with some light undertones of banana and clove and a weird bitter finish. Decent, but it isn’t something I would drink again.

12oz. not too impressed. Dusty pale cloudy gold with orange and a full tight white head. Aroma is more sweet than I expected. Also wheat and a solid yeast presence in addition to an expected bananna aroma. Very sweet, and quite sharp. Sweetness, yeast, and alcohol presence give a very lpesant floral flavor that has a great tangy finish.

On tap at Jerry’s. Cloudy gold with big, foamy white head / Nose of banana and spice / Full bodied with thick malts, some sweetness, subdued carbonation, and a bitter, spicy bite on the finish / Flavors of sour malt, banana, peaches, cloves, and coriander / Good but a touch cloying - lacks finesse. More of a dubbel than a trip.

Bottled. A hazy dark golden beer with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of peaches, while the flavor also has notes of malt.

Pours a honey yellow with a somewhat cloudy body. White foam that dissipates to a bit of lacing. Aroma is of nut and yeast. Flavor is again nutty and yest, more so than it is fruity and spicy like other tripels. Proves to be unique and stands out for that reason. Not a typical tripel and definitely can make its mark out there for it. Very happy with this, although it isn’t the typical tripel.

Pours a somewhat hazy yellowish color. Head is there, but minimal. Nice lacing on the glass. First impression is that it definitely has that full flavor that Dark Horse seems to have in all the beers. Not as sweet and fruity as most Tripels, but it does have the yeasty bready characteristics. Maybe a bit of brett in here as well. Ends on a somewhat dry clove spice note. Mild alcohol burn. Medium bodied. Pretty solid, but it’s hard to live up to the original Trappist brews.
