Aroma is strongly of yeast, malt, bread, and a little spice. Taste is spicy up front, then the yeast and malt come through. Medium mouthfeel. Good finish. A good beer--maybe a little underrated. jvmiller (532), Bel Air, Maryland, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 11, 2007 I couldn’t get over this raisiny bittersweetness that I always tend to find in Tripels. Yeast presence, alcohol fairly well covered, pretty sweet and heavy. Okay, but nothing I’d want to come back to. illinismitty (1800), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 10, 2007 Bottle from Friar Tuck in Savoy, IL. Pours a hazy pale orange with a white head. Aroma of belgian wheat malt, citrus, yeast, and bread. Initial flavor of pale belgian wheat malt and orange that transitions to flavors of yeast, clove, pepper, and must. Not much sweetness to counter things. Finish is dry, with lots of clovey phenols and notes of rubbing alcohol. Actually a respectable attempt at the style, but I am not a huge fan of Tripels. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

I’m reading and smoking and drinking. When I find myself ignoring the book to sniff the beer (and those of you that know me know that nothing distracts me from my book) I know this is something special. This is a gorgeous dark golden colored brew with an aroma of caramel, brandy, and something yummy I can’t quite name. It has a smooth palate with a thicker mouthfeel and a nice lingering after taste. I begin to see why it distracted me from the book. All in all, can’t wait till it’s available in Illinois.
