Commercial Description:
Why is the Grim Reaper holding a mailbox? Well, that mailbox is from a dead Dark Horse beer. The Grim Reaper better know as "Death" was quite fond of our classic Sapient Summer Wheat Ale. When we changed it into a Belgian Style Triple, Death thought it would only be appropriate to bring something from that beer into this beer. So he picked the mailbox, and we weren’t about to argue with him. You can say what you want about him, but that Death sure has a big heart. So anyway...we brewed this beer with a Trappist yeast strain so it is very traditional. The flavors are incredibly complex with notes of mild fruit and finishes with a bit of clove. Although this beer is higher in alcohol it is very smooth and finishes dry on the palate.

re rate. Had this out of a bottle. Much improved from the bad glass I had off the tap a year back. Very nicely balanced, lots of belgian fruitiness, some clove and spice, sweet with candi sugar. Very drinkable and well put together.

Bottle...love Dark Horse...this is not one of my favorites, overly sweet, not a big tripel fan though

Bottle. Pours hazy straw color, with a decent sized off white head. Aroma is yeast, citrus, banana. Flavor is sourdough, lemon, pale malts, some spice. Palate is medium bodied, mildly carbonated, semi-sweet finish. Not very good for a tripel. Lacks carbonation, too sweet, sour notes, one of my least favorite from DH.

Courtesy SoLan. Pours a cloudy yeasty gold, with a minimal white head. Doesnt smell like a usual triple. Kind of grainy and yeasty. Some citrus fruit. The taste is more triple-esque. That patented Belgian candy sugar, sweet malts, and soem butterscotch. Kind of tastes like an American triple. Maybe a tad too sweet, if they mellowed it out more, it would be better.

Aroma is bread, fruit, and some alcohol. Taste is much the same, very malty overall, with maybe some oatmeal added. Though the alcohol is evident on the nose, I can’t taste it at all which is a plus. Could use a bit more carbonation perhaps. First I’ve had of this style, and overall it’s not bad.

12 oz bottle. Poured a nice golden orange color with a small white head. It didnt seem very carbonated overall which is odd for a belgian style. Aroma seemed to be a light citrus with banana and some spiciness maybe cloves. Flavor was very nice as well. Starting off tasting like it was a little too full bodied for a tripel but it lightened up a little as it warmed. A little alcohol came through but i dont know really understand the low ratings, I am not a huge fan of tripel and i though it was good.

Poured a yellow color just darker than I would call a white. Hazy beer with a small off white head. Smells like sour bread and maybe some oats. Taste is suprising. A lot more sour than I would have expected. Slight lemon flavor. It leaves a slight bitter coating on the tongue. I am not a huge fan of Belgian styles and this one hasn’t given me anything that would change my mind.

Yeast, and light lemon scents in the aroma--along with some bread. Golden in color with an off-white head. Full palate for a tripel. Sweet malt flavors with some yeast and a very light citrus presence. Not bad for a tripel.
