Commercial Description:
Why is the Grim Reaper holding a mailbox? Well, that mailbox is from a dead Dark Horse beer. The Grim Reaper better know as "Death" was quite fond of our classic Sapient Summer Wheat Ale. When we changed it into a Belgian Style Triple, Death thought it would only be appropriate to bring something from that beer into this beer. So he picked the mailbox, and we weren’t about to argue with him. You can say what you want about him, but that Death sure has a big heart. So anyway...we brewed this beer with a Trappist yeast strain so it is very traditional. The flavors are incredibly complex with notes of mild fruit and finishes with a bit of clove. Although this beer is higher in alcohol it is very smooth and finishes dry on the palate.

Yeast, and light lemon scents in the aroma--along with some bread. Golden in color with an off-white head. Full palate for a tripel. Sweet malt flavors with some yeast and a very light citrus presence. Not bad for a tripel.

Nothing much in common with real tripels...but very good in and of itself. Big fruity/yeasty profile in both nose and flavor. There is a very strong apple cider thing going on here, too. Big ABV is virtually invisible. The malty sweetness anchors the whole thing. But there really is ZERO hop presence here...which I think is where they stray from style. But I love these guys anyway...and I’ll be stopping by again very soon!

Bottle from Dark Horse. Sweet & fruity smell while pouring. Starts out light, but darkens in my snifter to a darker pils color with a Bell’s-like crowd of floaties. Refreshing sourness, more Berliner than brett, touch of white wine driness. An excellent drink. Don’t know that it’d stand well next to a real Trappist Ale, but this is something I could drink every day.

Bottle from Sprinkle. Pours a very hazy straw color with some hints of orange. Slightly sweet grainy aroma. Nice scent of yeast somewhat like a hefe. Slightly sweet and spicy yeasty flavors of front, bit of grain. Finish is a little sweet at first and finishes slightly bitter with some alcohol.

Pours a hazy straw golden amber, topped by a good inch of soft white foam. Very good head retention, lacing is no big deal. A little sweet bread dough in the aroma. Very sweet beer up front with lots of caramel and honey. It also has some sweet breadiness, vanilla, cork, and a fruity spiced-apple character to it. Medium full body, gentle carbonation. A bit of a warming alcohol kicker in the finish, and a bit more in the aftertaste.

Bottle. Yellow orange pour with no real head to speak of. Aroma ofyeast, orange zest, a bit of coconut, and banana. Flavors of Candied fruit, light malt, yeast and orange zest. Kind of a syrupy body...small amount of carbonation and finishes sweet. Not bad, but it really missed some elements that would’ve made it better

Cloudy golden pour with a ting of white lace on top of it. Very appealing aroma of yeast and citrus. The flavor is good, the yeast and citrus complement each other. The texture is dry and powedery while the body is light and the carbonation is gentle. A good, well-done tripel.
