Commercial Description:
Why is the Grim Reaper holding a mailbox? Well, that mailbox is from a dead Dark Horse beer. The Grim Reaper better know as "Death" was quite fond of our classic Sapient Summer Wheat Ale. When we changed it into a Belgian Style Triple, Death thought it would only be appropriate to bring something from that beer into this beer. So he picked the mailbox, and we weren’t about to argue with him. You can say what you want about him, but that Death sure has a big heart. So anyway...we brewed this beer with a Trappist yeast strain so it is very traditional. The flavors are incredibly complex with notes of mild fruit and finishes with a bit of clove. Although this beer is higher in alcohol it is very smooth and finishes dry on the palate.

Bottle. Cloudy amberwith frothy white head. Sweet aroma of pears, brown sugar, yeast, caramel. Yeast really was evident and in not such a pleasant way. Medium body. The yeast took away from the flavor.

Light hazy yellow pour. Extremely yeasty aroma and flavor that didn’t mix very well with the hop profile. The yeast and hops contrasted in a really unpleasent way for me. Not my style of beer at all. If I want some yeast, I’ll drink a hefe-weizen. This was just too much.

This is not my style. Too little hops. However, this is a fine US brew that may rival a lot of Belgian ales.

Many thanks to Beerdrenched for picking this tripel up for me. Pours light gold with white head that leaves quickly. Aroma has a huge amount of fruit - passion fruit, white grapes and kiwi. There is also a lot of spicy and some Belgium earthiness. Medium body with fairly light carbonation for the style. Taste is very fruit as the aroma suggested - passion fruit and apricot are most noticeable. The finish bring the earthy aspects and spice. There is a bit of a cardboard taste on the finish. This is a nice American version of a tripel.

Slightly hazy golden body with a thin white head. Sweet candi sugar aroma with some light fruit. Sweet fruity flavor, some hints of candi sugar, and a light spice end.

Thanks to the random person who sent this to me. Light cloudy golden body with a thin white head. A very nice Belgian yeast aroma, somewhat fruity as well. A very nice taste, yeasty cherry, some light hops though for the most part, the taste is sweet. Smooth ending, though slightly hot.

12 oz bottle, via Styles. Pours a hazy dark gold body full of very tiny floaties under an almost non-existant white head, just a thin whispy covering and ring. Aroma seems to be quite off, some fruity malt and yeast, but a very prominant garbage juice and rubber background. Flavor is like the aroma. It starts out fairly sweet and malty but finishes with the taste like burnt tires. Very wierd really. Some alcohol on the finish also. Mouthfeel is thick and cloying with very soft carbonation. Finishes quite syrupy. Overall, something was off with this but I’m not sure if it was the brewery’s fault or just due to age. From what I’ve read, I suspect that this was due to yeast autolysis but I can’t be certain.
