Commercial Description:
Why is the Grim Reaper holding a mailbox? Well, that mailbox is from a dead Dark Horse beer. The Grim Reaper better know as "Death" was quite fond of our classic Sapient Summer Wheat Ale. When we changed it into a Belgian Style Triple, Death thought it would only be appropriate to bring something from that beer into this beer. So he picked the mailbox, and we weren’t about to argue with him. You can say what you want about him, but that Death sure has a big heart. So anyway...we brewed this beer with a Trappist yeast strain so it is very traditional. The flavors are incredibly complex with notes of mild fruit and finishes with a bit of clove. Although this beer is higher in alcohol it is very smooth and finishes dry on the palate.

12 oz bottle from Capones. Poured an unimpressive hazy orange body with just the slightest touch of bright white head. Aroma had a lot going on but the overall tone was tropical fruit, to a lesser extent yeast, grains, honey, candi sugar. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and a very dry finish. Flavor is more grainy then fruity but both aspects are nicely complimented by a good dose of yeast. Very solid beer.

[2357-20090731] Bottle. Mild banana grainy malt aroma. Slightly hazy, light brown body with a quick foamy off-white head. More grainy malt in the flavour with thick banana yeast. Medium body. Average.

Bottle: Hazy deep golden orange with an off white bubbly head. Sweet aroma- some graham cracker, honey, mild prune and vanilla. Soft mouth feel. Sugary flavor, yet decently carbonated. Lots of residual sugar with flavors of honey, vanilla, graham cracker and some vague restrained herbal character on the back. Another under attenuated American interpretation of a Tripel. Eh.

Muddy orange brown color with a small head. Aroma is sweet and earthy with some citrus, malts and caramel. Flavor is nice and very sweet, more age maybe. Not bad though.

Pretty good, but no substitute for the real thing. The spicy clove takes over the malt and esters that you’d hope for, and the finish is a bit hoppy and leaves an ambient alcohol glow simmering in your mouth.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with a white head. Aroma is very fruity with cherry, apple as well as subtle citrus notes. There is also a slight cinnamon note. Flavor is very grainy with subtle cinnamon and fruity notes.
