Commercial Description:
Why is the Grim Reaper holding a mailbox? Well, that mailbox is from a dead Dark Horse beer. The Grim Reaper better know as "Death" was quite fond of our classic Sapient Summer Wheat Ale. When we changed it into a Belgian Style Triple, Death thought it would only be appropriate to bring something from that beer into this beer. So he picked the mailbox, and we weren’t about to argue with him. You can say what you want about him, but that Death sure has a big heart. So anyway...we brewed this beer with a Trappist yeast strain so it is very traditional. The flavors are incredibly complex with notes of mild fruit and finishes with a bit of clove. Although this beer is higher in alcohol it is very smooth and finishes dry on the palate.

Apple cideresque aromas with light notes of cheese, honey, and dried fruits. Bitter balance on the flavors. More dried fruit, apple peel, some oak, light sugar and honey and a bit of cinnamon. Palate is lightly creamy up front and drying on the finish with a bitter fruit rind duration. Mild carbonation and minimal head, thick orange body. Good.

12 oz. bottle from Belmont Party Supply in Dayton, OH. This Belgian style tripel is a very cloudy orange and has a very nice fruity, yeasty flavor. Very smooth, very flavorful with some spice and a slight hop finish. This is a nice attempt at a tripel. I like what Dark Horse has got going on.

12 oz bottle courtesy of the Binnys Singles Rac (Orland Park, IL). Pours a well hazed amber orange hue, bright and lively, with decent bright white bubbly head that dissipates to a film, clings some. Aromas are fruity, apple and pear, with some nice belgian malt and a touch of spicey yeast, however largely fruity, lively, bright, with a touch of clove. Initial is medium bodied, pushing belgian yeasts, a bit of dryness, and some good fruit of apple, pear, and a touch of clove. Some faint banana, spice. A decent abbey triple. Finishes with a nice mix of sweetness and light bitter dryness. A bit of a warming sensation as it goes down. Not bad at all. Cheers.

Pours a cloudy amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is of banana, spices, yeast, and some cloves. Flavor is very similar to the aroma with a slight warming on the finish. Better then what I was thinking it was going to be.

Bottle. A burnt orange color pour with a thin off-white head that dissipated quickly, light carbonation, spotty lacing. Aroma seemed to be a light citrus zest with banana and some clove spiciness. Flavor is more malty than expected, bready, a little yeasty, some fruit, some grain and cloves, just the right amount of alcohol flavor, dry finish, medium body, medium mouthfeel. Very good brew.

My last beer of the night @ Dark Horse. Pours orange with a small white head. Aroma of spices, Belgian yeast, sugar, and citrus. Good flavor and balance....I wouldn’t have guess this was 8.5%. Nice blend of sweetness and spice.
