Commercial Description:
Why is the Grim Reaper holding a mailbox? Well, that mailbox is from a dead Dark Horse beer. The Grim Reaper better know as "Death" was quite fond of our classic Sapient Summer Wheat Ale. When we changed it into a Belgian Style Triple, Death thought it would only be appropriate to bring something from that beer into this beer. So he picked the mailbox, and we weren’t about to argue with him. You can say what you want about him, but that Death sure has a big heart. So anyway...we brewed this beer with a Trappist yeast strain so it is very traditional. The flavors are incredibly complex with notes of mild fruit and finishes with a bit of clove. Although this beer is higher in alcohol it is very smooth and finishes dry on the palate.

Pours an amber color with a thin wispy off-white head. Aroma has a lot of spice, some banana, light brown sugar. Flavor has a strong alcohol presence, spiciness, with some fruit notes which mix well with the candy sugar sweetness. Overall a decent beer.

Had this one bottled, thanks Jim! Hazy, dark reddish-orange pour with a thick, tan head, a sappy, sweet nose of banana, almond, citrus and spice, a very complex flavor, and a nice, dry bite in the finish. A very decent American Tripel.

12oz bottle shared by glid02 at the Brick Store. Pours a cloudy golden orange with a fluffy white head that lingers as a ring for a while and leaves some sporadic lacing. The aroma is very, very sweet for a tripel with lots of oranges and lemons on top of the Belgian yeast. Hints of spices as well. The taste follows the aroma with lots of fruity sweetness up front before the malts come out in the middle. There is also some candi sugar thrown in to amp the sweetness up even higher. This mouthfeel is fairly light with decent carbonation and sticky sweet. This is a decent tripel though probably a bit too sweet for my liking. Still pretty drinkable.

12oz bottle from Parti-Pak Liquors (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a dark caramel golden color with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet and caramely with notes of toasted malt, pears, apples, cider, and spice. Flavor is sweet and malty with caramel and toffee notes, honey, candied apples, hints of spice. Generally medium body with a sweet and fruity finish.

Slightly cloudy orange, small white head. Lemon/orange peel & brown sugar aroma. Heavily spiced, I could really only pinpoint nutmeg and coriander. Earthy finish. A touch thin bodied. Still, a rather solid tripel.

The spices in this are very nice, and make it a bit more distinct than your average trippel. The beer didnt seem as lightcolored as other Trippels. The yeast strain was very full of the monk basement nose, and the flavor was clovey, and wheatlike. Totally recommended.
