Nov 15, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours hazy, slightly red brown. Aroma is strong dark fruit with some sweet caramel. Flavor is earthy, caramel and dark fruit, a hint of chocolate, and some definite alcohol bite. There’s also an interesting candy grape note in the aftertaste. Pretty good, but not terribly special.

Oct 30, 2008 This ale pours a dark brown colour with a fast living head. Scents include raisins, molassass, malt, brown sugar and wine. First taste was quite strong flavoured with flavours of hopps, sweet malts and molassass. Palate is thick and dense with a syrupy mouthfeel. Flavours of hopps, raisins and a slight bitterness finish off the palate.

Oct 22, 2008 GABF 2008. Cloudy brown, aromas of toasty sweet malt, peat, fig paste. Bourbon-flavoured entry, earrthy/ashy, sweet toffee, figgy fruit finish. After a few sips the boozy character begins to take over, along with the peaty quality. Very nice rep of the style.

In short: A 9.75% session scotch Ale!?! Very smooth easy to drink beer.

The look: Cloudy redish-brown body topped by a short-lived beige head
In long: Nose of hard-candies and dried fruits of all kinds. Taste is surprisingly smooth. Unsalted pretzels dipped in caramel, toffee candies, dried fruits, brown sugar, red and dark grapes. A lot of woody and tree bark flavours really dry out the beer. Sweetness is not overwhelming (far from it) and the 9.75% alcohol is nowhere to be found. Carbonation is very soft. This is not a heavy sweet scotch ale, this is a soft and smooth relaxing session Scotty Yoga Scotch Ale.

Oct 19, 2008 Bottle! Pours a muddy dark brown, headless. Smells like a boozy fig newton and smoky apple cider. Taste is smoked malts and dark fruits. Long, warm finish. Lots of bubbles and a slightly watery texture. It’s a weird, enjoyable amalgam of a quad and a scotch, and a great autumn seasonal.

Oct 18, 2008 12 oz bottle cellared almost two years. Clear garnet with some wispy haze. Nose is caramel, raisin and alcohol. Medium light but a bit watery; faint carb. Taste is woody cider, peach and bitter grass. Earthy with subdued sweetness but kind of bland.

Oct 16, 2008 btl from Springslicker, Lightly hazed amber brown pour. No head or lace to speak of. Aroma of brown sugar and maybe dates. Sweet malt, raisins and light hint of abv. Nice warmth and a nice hint of bitter. Medium bodied and almost no carb. Pretty good beer.

Oct 15, 2008 Poured from a 12oz bottle and served in an English pint glass. This beer poured a murky brown with some crimson highlights and a thin head of tan foam that quickly settled into a lasting ring. A small amount of slippery lacing was left behind. The aroma of the beer was made up of caramelized brown sugar, dark fruits, and a hint of chocolate. The flavor included caramel, brown sugar, dried dark fruits, light chocolate, a touch of peat, a light spiciness, and also a bit of warming alcohol. This is some tasty stuff! The mouthfeel was full-bodied and had minimal carbonation. Surprisingly complex. A real treat from Dark Horse.
