Commercial Description:
For those of you who don't know who "Scotty Karate" is... He is a local one man band who plays an amazing slurry of honky tonk influenced, punk country songs. His voice is amazing as well as his high energy shows. (Check him out @ www.scottykarate.com) So, we decided to make a beer and name it in his honor. This beer is a big, full bodied Scottish ale. It is 9.75% alc. but it is very smooth and balanced. Since Scotty is also very passionate about beer I asked him to write a description for you, so from the man himself... Aroma: Smells like A fresh caramel apple with a hint of cinnamon inside of cranberry shortbread. Or maybe fresh home made hard candy (from home economics class-7th grade). Flavor: Tastes like a smokey chocolate chip cookie, wild roadside cherry-asparagus, woody, crispy leaf on a fall day.

DARK HORSE SCOTTY KARATE In short: A 9.75% session scotch Ale!?! Very smooth easy to drink beer.
How: Bottle 12oz, age unknown. From HogtownHarry, thanks a lot Harry
The look: Cloudy redish-brown body topped by a short-lived beige head
In long: Nose of hard-candies and dried fruits of all kinds. Taste is surprisingly smooth. Unsalted pretzels dipped in caramel, toffee candies, dried fruits, brown sugar, red and dark grapes. A lot of woody and tree bark flavours really dry out the beer. Sweetness is not overwhelming (far from it) and the 9.75% alcohol is nowhere to be found. Carbonation is very soft. This is not a heavy sweet scotch ale, this is a soft and smooth relaxing session Scotty Yoga Scotch Ale.

Bottle! Pours a muddy dark brown, headless. Smells like a boozy fig newton and smoky apple cider. Taste is smoked malts and dark fruits. Long, warm finish. Lots of bubbles and a slightly watery texture. It’s a weird, enjoyable amalgam of a quad and a scotch, and a great autumn seasonal.

12 oz bottle cellared almost two years. Clear garnet with some wispy haze. Nose is caramel, raisin and alcohol. Medium light but a bit watery; faint carb. Taste is woody cider, peach and bitter grass. Earthy with subdued sweetness but kind of bland.

btl from Springslicker, Lightly hazed amber brown pour. No head or lace to speak of. Aroma of brown sugar and maybe dates. Sweet malt, raisins and light hint of abv. Nice warmth and a nice hint of bitter. Medium bodied and almost no carb. Pretty good beer.

Poured from a 12oz bottle and served in an English pint glass. This beer poured a murky brown with some crimson highlights and a thin head of tan foam that quickly settled into a lasting ring. A small amount of slippery lacing was left behind. The aroma of the beer was made up of caramelized brown sugar, dark fruits, and a hint of chocolate. The flavor included caramel, brown sugar, dried dark fruits, light chocolate, a touch of peat, a light spiciness, and also a bit of warming alcohol. This is some tasty stuff! The mouthfeel was full-bodied and had minimal carbonation. Surprisingly complex. A real treat from Dark Horse.

Pours reddish Dark with very little head that dissapears quickly, taste is a fruity sweet malt, the label mentions butterscotch but I cannot seem to taste it. Very good Scotch Ale.

Deep cloudy amber color with a quickly dissipating tan head. Mild roasted aroma with an extremely smooth, rich and malty taste. Has a nice sweet and slightly fruity finish.

Pours dark brown with virtually no head. Initial aroma is that of unpasteurized fresh cider then some tiny hints of campfire smokyness, reminds me of a crisp autumn night (edit. That was before even reading the Com. Desc.!). Flavor is quite earthy, malty yet dry. I prefer a bit more sweetness in my Scotch ales. Flavor kind of falls flat after the aroma.
