Commercial Description:
For those of you who don't know who "Scotty Karate" is... He is a local one man band who plays an amazing slurry of honky tonk influenced, punk country songs. His voice is amazing as well as his high energy shows. (Check him out @ www.scottykarate.com) So, we decided to make a beer and name it in his honor. This beer is a big, full bodied Scottish ale. It is 9.75% alc. but it is very smooth and balanced. Since Scotty is also very passionate about beer I asked him to write a description for you, so from the man himself... Aroma: Smells like A fresh caramel apple with a hint of cinnamon inside of cranberry shortbread. Or maybe fresh home made hard candy (from home economics class-7th grade). Flavor: Tastes like a smokey chocolate chip cookie, wild roadside cherry-asparagus, woody, crispy leaf on a fall day.

Wow... with a 9.75% I expected this to have a bite to it but its so smooth its probably dangerous! A slight bitter chocolate taste is evident.

Pours a dark murky brown color with a medium creamy beige head. Almost date-like in appearance. Malty aroma with hints of cotton candy, pears, raisins, caramel and some spices. Taste is of caramel malts, candied sugar, pears, banana and light spices. Very good and the alcohol is well hidden.

Pours with a deep, thick mahogany body. A slow effervesce predicts viscosity. A minimalist beige heads forms on a gentle pour. This has really lush, deep aromas: peat & brandy, charred oak, cherries & peaches. Full-flavored... a lot of smoky roasts fueled by an undertow of brandied fruits. High ABV is obvious and welcome. Full-bodied and warming with light astringence to coax you into taking another sip. I can’t wait for Dark Horse to get into Illinois, now let’s work on getting them into Chicago.

Served in a snifter. Clear, dark reddish brown. Thick one finger head with typical retention. Wonderful roast malt nose. Nice thick creamy mouth-feel. Flavor is dominated by roast malts. I wouldn’t claim this to be a Scotch Ale, but enjoyable nonetheless.

12 oz. bottle via trade with sliffy - Pours a hazy light brown color with a thin light tan head which faded pretty quick. No lacing. Aroma is full of esters (pear, apple, raisin) and light toasted malt. Flavor is esters and semi-sweet doughy malt. Has a slight lingering spice/ester aftertaste. Medium body. Alcohol is slightly noticeable. Not your typical Scotch ale, but good none the less. Thanks Dan.

This wisp of head with almost no carbonation. Rich sweet and fruity aroma with plums, raisins, candi sugar and some caramel. Very sweet smelling. Murky dark brown in color. Sweet and flavorful. Big malts, a hint of smoke, more dark fruit, some spices and caramel. Noticable alcohol presence and warming. This is more like a big belgian strong than a scotch ale to me. Very smooth but a little oily. Some earthy overtones which are welcomed. Finish is creamy and warming with a lingering malty and spicy flavor. Not exactly what I had imagined for this brew but still a damn good beer. Thanks to sliffy for this gem.

Bronze brown color, nice off-white head, nice lacing. Nose of sweet toffee and bread, spent coffee grounds, molasses and a very subtle coriander note from the hops. The flavor is a bit smoky with a light metallic but very sweet yet balanced nutty caramel/toffee note. Finish is still sweet and licoricey with lots of sugar and caramel. Scotchy, strong too, eh!

Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and caramel. pours dark brown with a moderate head. Strong flavors of chocolate, coffee, molasses, maple, with a bit of a light hop bitter finish. Solid mouth feel that creates a very full bodied, warming beer.
