A small head tops this medium amber brew that has an aroma of brown sugar and bready malt. Moderately sweet flavor with no hops that tends to be a bit one-dimensional overall. Juelze (901), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 24, 2007 Pours dark brownish-red color. Very little head. Aroma is of light peat, caramel malt, light spice. Taste is caramel malt, smoke, light fruitiness, and alcohol. The alcohol is pretty apparent in this one but isn’t that what scotch ales are all about? Moderately carbonated it’s a pretty good representation of the style, however the finish is a bit thin for what I expect out of a scotch ale. JoeMcPhee (5000), Jackson Heights, New York, USA

Taste is much of the same. The 9.75% ABV hides very well in this brews. Sweet fruits in this that I cant separate. Very good brew, thanks beagle. Pours reddish brown with a thin layer of head that is in the shade of off white/tan. The nose is malty and rich with touches of sweetness and fruit. The taste is big with a very nice sweet malty flavor. The taste is really quite nice with a lot of complexity and it feels great in the mouth. This is a very solid Scotch Ale. fly (1332), austin, Tejas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 17, 2007 Very nice, luscious body. Sweet and roasty, but the sweetness may have been attributed to having been consumed following a sourish Belgian brew. Was a pleasure to drink and have the story of the character honored by a formwe Dark Horse brewer. When I get so carried away drinking a beer and neglecting niotes, then would say it’s a compliment. Not to me, to the beer.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 12, 2007 Bottle. Pretty enormously happy with the expansion of Dark Horse distribution into Bloomington. Aroma of roasted malt chocolate, dunkel-toast, caramel, grape, lots of malt, light smoke, cherry, wood, and some heat. Highly carbonated body, no head, dark ruby appearance. Sticky malt. Tastes of smoked cherry, wood, some roast malt, caramel and light anise far in the back, lots of cherry and grape, very, very full body. Salty and lightly alcoholic. Dry aftertaste with a hint of smoked vegetables under the Dubbelish cherry/grape. Alcohol needs to be toned down and better-integrated, but a nice level of flavor and complexity. Beware, though, the first sip is far better than the last.
