Commercial Description:
For those of you who don't know who "Scotty Karate" is... He is a local one man band who plays an amazing slurry of honky tonk influenced, punk country songs. His voice is amazing as well as his high energy shows. (Check him out @ www.scottykarate.com) So, we decided to make a beer and name it in his honor. This beer is a big, full bodied Scottish ale. It is 9.75% alc. but it is very smooth and balanced. Since Scotty is also very passionate about beer I asked him to write a description for you, so from the man himself... Aroma: Smells like A fresh caramel apple with a hint of cinnamon inside of cranberry shortbread. Or maybe fresh home made hard candy (from home economics class-7th grade). Flavor: Tastes like a smokey chocolate chip cookie, wild roadside cherry-asparagus, woody, crispy leaf on a fall day.

Bottle from Acknud - thanks! Dark reddish color with very little head. Smells like bread and chocolate! Full bodied with creamy carbonation. Taste is very chocolate. It’s a bit suggestive of a chocolate covered cherry cordial. There’s a bit of heat. Some mild smoke comes with time. Pretty darn complex. Really good. Everybody should try this.

12 oz. bottle from some time back from the Binnys Singles Rack (Orland Park, IL). Pours a glowing brownish red, dark copper, well hazed, with moderate tannish head that dies to a decent amount and laces. Aromas are nice: light peaty malt, some brown sugar, prominent fruity notes, caramel, and an overall sweetness. Initial is medium in body, a little warm, with light peat, caramel, a touch of chocolatey goodness, faint smoke and toast on the back end. Finishes with that sweetness on the palate and aftertaste. A little less enjoyable than expected.

Normally, I’d say: I don’t like Scotch Ale. But this beer is sweet and malty and has lots of flavors mixed in. Very nice overall. Enjoyable.

Lots of smoke in the nose mixes well with the caramel malts and brown sugar. Flavor is more of the same. Sweet malts with a nice backbone of smoke. More smoke than I would have expected. I’m enjoying this one.

12oz bottle. Pours murky brown with minimal tan head. Aroma is of caramel, malt, sugar, yeast, and chocolate. Lots of alcohol in the nose. Taste is of caramel, sugar, yeast, malt, smoke, and dark fruit. Far less chocolate in the taste than in the nose. Sharp alcohol bite takes a few sips to get warmed up to. Body is surprisingly light, bordering almost on watery. Lack of carbonation makes this one a little off. Very dry, boozy finish. Light body and sugary taste knock it down a notch.

Pours adark mahogany brown...with no head at all. This beer smells incredible!! Aromas of dark fruit, toffee and some serious caramel...I can smell the depth of this beer. I hope this tastes as good as it smells. Flavors of heavy caramel malt, toffee, raisin, sweet dough...this is awesome! Good brew...Dark Horse strikes again!!!

Another great beer from Dark Horse the forgotten brewery in Michigan. The pour was a cloudy brown with a reddisih hue the head had to be coaxed with a vigorous pour and was small and tan. aromas of strong caramel malts, bread ,yeast and alcohol taste was of heavy amounts of caramel malts and alcohol. just a great brew

dark mahogany pour with no head....Unbelieveable aroma of seet fruits!!......Apples, cherry, caramel and more apples. Very thick mouth feel. Sligtly sweet and easy going down.....very smooth. Can definately taste the caramel and freash cookies. Chocolate and sweet fruits on the end....the malts really start to come out as well. Can Darkhorse do no wrong?
