inkubus27 (237), Highland, Indiana, USA Jul 5, 2008 Initial appearance is amazing, heavy pure black pour with a tiny head. The aroma leads you to think that damn, this just may taste pretty good. It smells like a good combination of roasted malts and blueberries. But then you get down to the flavor. To me, this tasted like soy sauce. I think the combination of the roasted malts and blueberry flavoring or whatever was used just doesn’t work at all. But then again, maybe this would pair well with some good chinese food. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jun 29, 2008 Bottle acquired via polomagnifico. What a great beer. Such a low ABV for such a mightly little bottle!!! Jet black with a mocha colored head that hangs around. An interesting brew with obvious blueberry in the nose and on the palate. Somehow, the blueberry tartness/fruitiness plays well with the chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt of the stout. Not syrupy at all...just a nice subtle nuance that makes it unique. OldMrCrow (1179), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 29, 2008 Bottle.
ours dark as india ink, making me wonder about the ABV until I tasted it. That flavor isn’t actually all that bad - the blueberries are relatively subtle there until you get to the finish, where you do get too much blueberry. But goodness, the aroma: canned blueberry syrup like what you’d get at Waffle House. This one totally doesn’t work for me. There’s some nice bitter chocolate tones in there, but man....it’s a blueberry mess. Huge disappointment. jameswolfe (141), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 24, 2008 Surprisingly good. I normally find fruity beers to be a bit of a mess. This one though has all the power of a stout and the hint of blueberries goes well with the malty goodness. Pours midnight black and smells of chocolate and blueberries. The taste is slightly bitter with malt and a bit of blueberry fruit. The finish is long and strong. SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Jun 18, 2008 Black in color with a thin to non-existent head. The nose is filled with dark chocolate, blueberry preserve...and that’s about it. Medium to full-bodied with good concentration and quite syrupy, it’s hard to believe this is only 4.5% alcohol! In the mouth the chocolate and blueberry are again quite prominent. alexsdad06 (1056), Ohio, USA Jun 15, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours black with asmaller tan head that disappears leaving a creamy crown. The aroma has roasted malts, dark chocolate, some coffee notes, and a blueberry inspired fruitiness. The flavor is a mix of roasted malt and blueberry up front. Mid to late it becomes more roasted, dark chocolate, and light coffee. There is a moderate sweetness throughout, with bitterness becoming more prominent at the end. Smooth and medium bodied. notalush (2628), Denver, Colorado, USA Jun 13, 2008 Black pour, with an impressive tan lace - the aroma is an interesting mixture of roasted malts, anise, blueberry, and espresso (but it works) - the body and flavor is that of a roasty cream stout, with strong coffee bitterness, light cream sweetness - this sweetness works well with what little blueberry flavor is apparent (mostly up front, as it fades on the back end) - the bitterness becomes a little much, though, as it gets a little ashy - not one of their best stouts, but an interesting one. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Jun 12, 2008 Black with a light brown head. Wow, incredible aroma of fresh sweet, plump blueberries with roasted malts. Silky smooth and medium bodied. Great flavor is super fresh juicy sweet blueberry with chocolatety blackened malts. The berry flavor here is perfect; not too sweet nor mild. This is like dipping fresh blueberries in chocolate sauce, awesome brew !
