Not artificial, but real, freshly crushed blueberries. There’s a hint of coffee behind the sweet/tart blueberries. Pours black with a quickly disappearing brown head. Nicely balanced on the palate with blueberries fading into some lightly roasted malt and espresso flavors. Medium bodied. I like how they used the tartness of the blueberries for aroma and not to make it into a syrupy fruit beer. Nice! ElJefe (553), Rochester, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 2, 2007 Disclaimer: I love blueberries, and I love stout, so I was pretty much destined to love this beer.
Pours opaque black with a thick orange-brown head. Aroma of fresh blueberries and roasted espresso. Tart blueberry flavor blends well with traditional sout character - molasses, coffee, and cocoa. Neutral mouthfeel. Long roasted coffee finish is quite dry. Bottle acquired via trade with drewbeerme - thanks, man! JCB (1747), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 25, 2007 Updated: Sep 24, 200812oz bottle from EithCubes - thanks, Mike! You really can’t miss the blueberry smell, can you? But it’s not the smell of those crappy ones they use at IHOP or anything; these actually smell real and natural. The dark, almost rounded taste of the berry is well suited for the way some stouts veer away from bitters into a nice yeast/malt combo - and Tres is certainly one of those. There’s a hint of roast in there, to be sure, but the full malty body really blends well with the dark fruits. Palate’s a bit thin but this is very fine stuff, which I’ll seek out again. jetzler (622), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Jul 24, 2007 Bottle shared with MrRomero, strong tart aroma of blackberries underscored by a roasted malt aroma. Pours a nice dark color with a light tan head. Tart blueberries contrast nicely with the dark roasted malts. Nice dry finish with a lighter palate, and high levels of carbonation. This a was a nice brew. MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 23, 2007 12 oz bottle: I opened this bottle and smelled the blueberries right off the bat. I like blueberries. Blueberries in beer is right up my alley. Big aroma of blueberries and as that subsides, a bit of roasty stout-like qualities come out. Lots of roasted malt in the flavor and pretty dry also. Quite a bit of carbonation. A good stout with the addition of blueberries make this a winner. decaturstevo (1980), decatur, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 10, 2007 A beer that had been in the cellar for almost a year. Almost drank it alone a number of times. Finally cracked it open at Beer_Hawks cellar clearing tasting. A combination of blueberries, smoke, and coffee on the nose. A dark brown almost black pour with a lite tan head and lace. A flavor that is weighted heavy on the front by the blueberries then fades to a rich coffee with both flavors wrapped in a full smoky flavor. A bit foamy but not fizzy. Palate is full bodied past the carbonation? A very complex beer overall. With flavors from everywhere. Nice. jvmiller (532), Bel Air, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 8, 2007 I was a bit put off with the idea of a blueberry stout, but this one surprised me. Not a huge fan of blueberries, but this worked nicely. Dry, roasty, with just a hint of blueberries. Nice. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 6, 2007 I love blueberries and not many beers made with them have appealed much to me. This did. It poured out black with a fleeting brown head. The aroma of blueberries was not overpowering. It was joined by notes of chocolate, coffee, malt, barley. Good body to it and low carbonation. The flavor was rich with the blueberries singing backup rather than lead. Quite good.
