Strong blueberry aroma with a roasty chocolate background. Again big blueberry flavor with a good sweet stout backing. Very natural blueberry flavor; good beer. tranum (34), delafield, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 8, 2007 I really loved this beer. Pours a dark purple with a very small head. Hints of blueberry in the taste but not overwhelming. actually the blueberry flavoring is just perfect. I also taste hints of chocolate. Also the smell is wonderful. It smells like blueberry juice. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 8, 2007 12 oz bottle. Impenetrable purple brown with a dying crema head. Blueberries rise up even as i pour. Closer, more blueberries with a trace of pink grapefruit. Expecting a fruit beer i was pleasantly surprised to find a rugged stout. Begins a bit fizzy. Dark chocolate and coffee melt away leaving grape Nehi and grapefruit zest. Smooth, medium body. Dry finish with light berry. Fruit flavor is there but doesn’t detract. I continue to be impressed with Dark Horse. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Mar 6, 2007 Poured black with a moderate tan head. Slightly fruity aroma, but it also has a sweet roasty, almost nutty smell. Pretty thin mouthfeel, which was disappointing. Blueberry taste is there, but way in the background. The finish is slightly roasty. The thin mouthfeel and muted flavors are at odds with the Dark Horse brews I’ve had so far. Cletus (5052), Connecticut, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 3, 2007 Pours dark brown with a light brown head that turns tan as the head develops and sustains itself. Smells strongly of blueberries initially, but they seem to drop off and disappear after the initial pour. Smells of coffee, cocoa, pepper and some dark fruit as the beer settles and warms. Tastes of chocolate, coffee and spices. Blueberry flavor is there, but is very subtle and easy to overlook. Finishes slightly metallic with subtle spice and chocolate. Even though this isn’t as blueberry as I’d like it to be, it has a lot of depth and is very enjoyable for a dry stout. EithCubes (2146), Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 3, 2007 Updated: Oct 5, 2007Bottle. Loads of blueberry aroma mixed in with a hearty amount of dry roast and lesser chocolate. Opaque, motor oil body with an extremely dark brown and volatile ephemeral head. Taste is predominately a dry roast but the strong blueberry is blended in nicely and plays quite a role in the aftertaste, which is also very dry and chocolatey with notes of toffee and gritty roast. Big cheers to DH for achieving such a natural blueberry taste - well-integrated and as far from cloying as is possible. Bittersweet with moderate, stouty carbonation. Smooth, fullish body. Very robust flavor for its abv. A well-conceived and well-executed experiment ... one of the more interesting beers I’ve had this year. BeerBelcher (937), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 2, 2007 I thought this beer was a rather good stout with good amounts of roastiness overlaid with an appropriate amount of blueberry fruit. All in all, I thought it quite good, but I was not totally blown away by it.
I had this beer on draft at Roman’s.
It was a dark black color, completely opaque. Head was nude-pantyhose tan, with a hint of blue in some of the larger bubbles. Aroma was toasted malt and blueberries. Taste is a decent amount of "burned pizza crust" (which I dig) with an appropriate amount of blueberry flavor. I wouldn’t think fruitiness and toastiness would play well together, yet they do. Mouthfeel is quite dry and good. Definitely recommended. gunsho (134), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
