Aromas are strongly of sweet blueberry. Like pancake syrup. Obvious up front Blueberry. Flavors are more of a typical imperial stout with only slight blueberry flavors. Works well though as a stout with blueberry hints. A fairly bitter smokey flavor in general with a quite bitter trailer. Interesting, nice place to visit.... MrBunn (1555), Western, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 20, 2006 Pour is a dark, deep brown with a really big frothy chocolaty head. Aroma is strong of blueberry and chocolate. Flavor is burnt grain, coffee and a little less blueberry flavored than the aroma indicated. Mouthfeel is thick and smooth (maybe like chocolate milk). I’m not totally sold on the blueberry... it’s interesting and definitely adds something, but I’m not sure at what cost. Definitely worth trying, probably won’t work it’s way into the regular rotation. hellbilly (1553), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 13, 2008 Updated: Sep 10, 2009bottle by way of dragonstout. nice near black pour with a strange orange tinged head. aroma is cooked fresh blueberries, the way dried blueberries taste, chocolate, roasty grains and their ashiness. flavor is definitely dried blueberries (@ $27/pound!) mixed with chocolate, vanilla, high roasted grain and very light sweetness. dry fruity finish with notes of yeast. chocolate and blueberry flavors linger in the aftertaste. medium bodied but it has a insanely soft texture as it’s sloshed around. yeasty sludge at the bottom of the glass...cool. it works. well done...7/4/8/4/17/4.0
i can’t get the smell of dried blueberries off my mind...9/4/8/4/17/4.2 LilBeerDoctor (1530), East Setauket, New York, USA

Also sort of smells like glue...Flavor is lightly roasted with the sweet blueberry/glue. Interesting stout but the blueberry flavor is a bit odd to me.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Mar 6, 2007 Poured black with a moderate tan head. Slightly fruity aroma, but it also has a sweet roasty, almost nutty smell. Pretty thin mouthfeel, which was disappointing. Blueberry taste is there, but way in the background. The finish is slightly roasty. The thin mouthfeel and muted flavors are at odds with the Dark Horse brews I’ve had so far. 17thfloor (1507), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Pours dark thick black with a wonderful brown chocolate creamy froth. Great aroma of smokey woody blueberries! Flavor follows, quite smokey and woody with a great chocolate blueberry vanilla spice flavor. Medium bodied, creamy with light carbonation. This stuff is very yummy! 9.5.8.4.17
[Rerate - 09 bottle enjoyed 2.7.09] Pours a very dark unclear brown with a medium bubbly brown froth, 4.5. Aroma is similar to previous description with maybe a bit more green hops and some blueberry muffin. Nice sweet chocolate flavor and slightly tart tangy blueberries with a bit of hops and hint of smokiness. Medium bodied, actually a bit thin, large soft carbonation bubbles. Love the blueberry accents and its quite drinkable, more like a blueberry porter. 8.4.8.4.16 dmac (1500), Toms River, New Jersey, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Feb 22, 2009 Tap at EBF. I didnt really care for this one. The sweetness from the blue berries didnt blend well with the roastiness of the stout. The two distinct flavors might be good on their own but together they just dont work. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 14, 2004 Eight Ball black with a dark brown laquer covering; a waffer thin, firmly thick dark brown head appears, skims out to a thin collar; slow dripping ink blots and strings of lacing.
Nice aroma here, tantalizing black licorice, dark chocolate, blackened burnt raisins, roasted coffee, black pepper, and some anise and corriander notes. I’m not getting alot of blueberry, but whats there is very earthy, dark and fresh, like they threw in the whole blueberry bush, twigs, leaves, and all. Nothing fake, or so I hope. It reminds me of a subdued Bell’s Expedition mixed with the Harry Magill’s. And that’s a good thing.
Taste is nice, smooth lusious front thats relatively creamy and mild with roasty tones, dark and bittersweet chocolate sweeps in dotted with spices, touches of the blueberry, then goes into a complexing little finish of drying where oaty sweetness, chocolatey dryness, nudges of coffee, and black malt roast; and way late is a return of blueberry in a very intricate earthy juicyness covered in some of the roasty drying qualities. Quite an interesting and complex brew.
Feel is close to full throughout, smooth and creamy front, soothing, warming in its spices, cooling with its oaty sweetness and blueberry fruityness. Finish is where its at, finespun and layered in dryness with great combinations of roasty stuff, sweet oats and chocolate.
This was an attractively alluring stout to behold, Yum!
