| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 6, 2002 Extremely thick, chewy maltiness. Lots of dark roasted malts, maybe a little too much. Blueberry quality is extremely restrained, it is much more prevalent in the aroma than in the flavor. Slight extract flavor, perhaps they’re using blueberry syrup? But overall, pretty interesting beer. Mine seemed more like PsychProf’s first bottle than his rerate, subdued blueberry quality. Thanks PsychProf! MI2CA (1266), Noblesville, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 16, 2006 12oz - Aroma is mostly blueberry with some roasted chocolate malt. Pours black with small brown head and good lacing. Flavor is mostly roasted malts and coffee with a slight blueberry aftertaste. A flip-flop of the what the aroma leads you to expect. Palate is creamy and smooth. Very well done brew that tastes like a berry flavored stout instead of a stout flavored berry drink. jrob21 (1266), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 14, 2008 Caramel colored head. Aroma of light roasted malt. Flavor is where the blueberry really comes through. Back end flavors of cocoa and bittersweet chocolate. You are left with a mice sweetness. This would make a great dessert beer. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 26, 2004 Black opaque, moderate brown head. Aroma is really nice, chocolate smothered in blueberries, maybe a little coffee mixed in there too! Flavor is mainly fruity(blueberries of course) and some baker’s chocolate. Sweet. Mouthfeel is creamy. Finish is fairly sweet. If you like blueberries and think it would mix well with a stout, you gotta try this one. j12601 (1261), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA

Bottle courtesy of BMan1113VR in this year’s summer secret santa. Thanks! Pours a viscous midnight black with a dark brown head. Just gorgeous. One of the most beautiful looking stouts I’ve come across, but the head falls off a bit too quickly for me.
Light sweet blueberries, chocolate, and very faint hints of roast. The body is a little thinner than its looks belie, but it’s not thin by any means. Really nice mouthfeel, smooth and supple. Chocolate, blueberry, subdued roast character that leans more towards bitter cocoa than char. A little like a dark chocolate truffle with blueberries in it. Finishes with more lingering bitter dark chocolate flavor. Outstanding.

Thanks to artusory for the beer in a recent trade. I’ve had a handful of Dark Horse beers. This is the best so far, beating out the 3 Guys Off the Scale. The blueberry is not overpowering but it is obvious enough where this beer gets its name.
Aroma / Appearance - The nose was an interesting combination of blueberry pie, chocolate, mocha and smoke. It reminds me of a warm blueberry cobbler. The pour was deep black and fluid with just a hint of head. The lacing was muddy brown as it slid down the side of my sample glass.
Flavor / Palate - A bitter combination of blueberries, cherries, smoke and roasted malts comprise the taste. It does not change much over the course of the beer but is very consistant. It feels as if someone liquified blueberry cobbler in a smoky environment. It was very enjoyable, though not quite on par with New Glarus Belgian Red. Still, if this ever makes it to Madison I could easily see picking up some more. drfabulous (1240), Columbia, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 27, 2007 Thick and rich stout. Nice solid taste of chocolate. The blueberry is subtle, but not dominant. You smell it, and you barely taste it afterwards. JaBier (1219), Capital City, Ohio, USA

Loved it the first time I had it and couldn’t bear to look at this gem another day. Pitch black pour with a medium light brown head. Nose is mostly chocolate malt with subtle blueberry and coffee. Chocolaty flavor up front gives way to blueberries and a bitter coffee finish. It’s so easy to overdo or underdo fruit in a beer, but they absolutely nailed it.
