Opaque, hugely bottle conditioned, AND a large deep rich yellow-tan head. Smells of blueberry rinds, not sweet at all, more like vegetables, or spices. Immediately, flavor reminds me of ginger. . .what is going on?? Is this just extremely dry blueberry extract?? How is this stuff this dry? Tastes very similar to 2004 Anchor OSA, though less spicey and a bit thinner. Coffee rinds at the start, and a hazlenut finish with some light blueberry. Mouthfeel is just plain light, some stickiness on the finish, from the barley, but nowhere near what a stout should be. If they are going to call this a stout, make it a stout, not a dark colored blueberry ale. Dickinsonbeer (3496), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA

The pour is so damn black it makes dark lord look like a pussy-seriously this is one of the darkest stouts out there. I could have sworn this one was going to be 10% with how dark it was. Relaly nice long lasting creamy brown head and good lacing. Aroma is very very strong with fresh blueberries. I can smell it from at least 2 feet away. Upon further inspection the aroma also has some chocolate and a bit of roasted malts. Flavor has tons of chocolate malt, a bit of roasted barley and a ton of blueberries. FInish is a bit tart but mostly smooth. This beer is awesome. Still confused how this beer is so dark and yet so smooth.... blankboy (3214), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Fifth beer of our Dark Horse Brewing tasting. Pours deep black with a nice size, lasting, foamy brown head -- looking good! Aroma starts off all blueberry but as you smell deeper you get roasted malt, coffee and smoke -- quite nice and original. The flavour, WOW, is that ever different! Fruit followed by smoke, coffee, some mild sourness and then hops -- all nicely balanced. Palate is creamy and dry. Medium bodied. I really like this, a very interesting and delicious Stout. Dark Horse are blowing us away tonight. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA

I haven’t smelled blueberries this rich since my last IHOP trip. Taste is really full with the fresh berries with some chocolate behind it. Some cigar flavor in there also. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 1, 2006 Thanks to hopdog. Pours a dark black with a foamy/creamy tan head. Aroma of blueberry, various spices, cinnamon, all-spice, nutmeg and even some alcohol despite the low abv. Flavors of the same with some more cocoa and coffee coming through. The blueberry was very interesting. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 4, 2004 On tap at the brewery. Poured a small sized tan head that contained fine sized bubbles that mostly dissipated. The hue was black with an opaque body. The aroma was lightly hoppy and blueberry. The taste was sweet, malty and coffee and raspberry. The mouthfeel was smooth and this was a medium bodied beer with sparse lacing. GeneralGao (3063), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 10, 2007 12 oz bottle. Thick, oily pour. Opaque black with a thick brown head. Attractive aroma of chocolate and distinct blueberry with a whiff of burnt stick. Slightly sweet and fruity on the tongue. Pretty unique pairing of roasty and chocolatey malt with just the right amount of blueberry flavor. Full bodied and delicious. Kind of like coffee and blueberry pie. I have to say I really like blueberries and I am usually dissapointed with Blueberry brews. The brew pours black with a thin brown head. The head seems uncharacteristically dark for a stout that is so small in ABV. The blueberry aroma is fanstastic, it is subtle, but upon opening the top I could smell it and it smells fantastic. I can almost taste the berries in my mouth. The taste blends the subtle blueberry with a nice malty rich body. This is a very succesful blueberry beer in my opinion. Great work darkhorse.
