jscherer (6), USA does not count Dec 20, 2007 This one was amazing, Aroma reminds me of fresh blueberry muffins, Dark color, Tastes great, finishes smooth. This beer inspired me to take a road trip over to their pub. SturmWulf (65), USA Dec 24, 2007 Opened bottle and was surprised as it foamed over out of the bottle, Strange the bottle hasn’t moved in over two weeks, the temperature was at 45 degrees. The bottom of the bottle however, had a lot of sediment in it, much more than I’ve ever seen in any bottle. After that, I poured it and the aroma was beautiful! Strong blueberry, chocolate, malt, roasted malt, coffee and a hint of smoke. Poured pure black with a dark tan with purple very, very large foamy head that slowly receded into a thick, creamy cap. Very impressive lloking. Left nice lacing on pint. Taste was fantastic! Starts out with a slight chocolate flavor followed by beautiful blueberry, then malt, coffee, touch of smoke, touch of slightly burnt roasted malt, followed by more blueberry. Very good! Body is medium, texture slightly thicker than medium and creamy. After the initial foam over, the very large head I expected it to be overly carbonated But, it was average, much to my surprise. The finish is dry, pleasantly robust with slight bitter and short. Very good! I really enjoyed the beer even though it foamed all over me out of the bottle. LOL.... Seriously, it is one very excellent stout. Very complex, very tasty, very smooth, very creamy. A excellent stout! Great job by Dark Horse. If you like ’em black, creamy, sweet with a slight bitter aftertaste this is one you have to try! jezmez68 (332), Chesterton, Indiana, USA Dec 26, 2006 Slight blueberry taste, does not overpower the stout, not a fruity beer. Nice, beautiful dark color, dark foam, very light head. Great blueberry scent.
They could use some work on the label art. What do they do, get the local patrons of the brew pub to draw a doodle and put it on the bottle?
This is a good stout. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA Oct 27, 2004 Most likely, the highest rating this beer will ever get. This seems like a guilty pleasure. I haven’t had one in a week, but my mouth waters thinking about this beer. Black opaque with a thick head that looks like toasted marshmallow was dropped onto the beer, directly from the stick that was just held over a campfire. Nose hints of fruit and has plenty of roasted espresso and hints of bittersweet chocolate. Blueberry/chocolate muffin, if there is a such thing. Dry roasted malts are first on my tastebuds, but they yield to some chocolates and then to some vinousy fruity tones. Long and malty in the finish, but enough fruit and dry bitterness to make it seem more complex than a "blueberry stout" should be. Long after the first pint was emptied, and even after a "Fore" and an "Oktoberfest", I was getting hints of the blueberry and thick, oily chocolate flavors... Cdog (32), Farmington, Michigan, USA Jan 22, 2005 Great stout. Pours black with a blue tint and a carmel thick head. coffee, chocolate flavors with the tart sweetness of blueberries make this stout first class!!! jstraw (750), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 23, 2009 Draft at Jerry’s. Black with big, creamy brown head / Big, roast nose / Medium to full body, chewy, with great balance and finish / Flavors of roast coffee, unsweetened chocolate, and tobacco, with subtle blueberry notes / Near perfect, just a textbook example of a dry stout with the deft touch of blueberries adding a little extra interest. heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Apr 6, 2008 Perfectly black body with an orange and brown head. The smell makes me nostalgic as it reminds me of blueberry pancakes my parents made while we were camping. The taste is dominated by coffee and blueberries. There is also a little bit of anise. A nice sweet blueberry finish. An excellent beer and easily the best fruit flavored stout I have tried. Inveigler (371), Ferndale, Michigan, USA Nov 12, 2004 Go back through my comments of fruit beer, and you might find the words, "This is possibly the best fruit beer I have ever had ..." Erase all, replace here, and for god’s sake go out and try this stout. This is the most masterful blend of fruit and stout that I have ever tasted. The blueberries show in the aroma, and tantalize in the taste. Nice roastiness, tons of bitterness, how do the blueberries struggle and avoid being overwhelmed? Don’t know, but it is positively remarkable. This is a great beer. World class.
