The palate of this one on tap is delectable. Thin head stays a long time, and then you are looking at a smooth, strong, hefty mirrored black surface. Perfect melding of flavors...more blueberry and it would get horrifying, more stoutish and it would barely be a fruit beer. Upping this one .2. Rerate: Not for the faint of heart or blueberry haters. Everything is over the top here, blueberry aroma and taste, dark dark dark roasted malt. And I mean dark. The head is dark brown, yet the body is lighter, alive. Still the same 3.7 rating, but I had to let it be known that this thing is challenging.
Original: 4/24/02: This one works for me...far lighter in the mouth than I expected. Nice aroma, not over the top. Taste components are a slight roastiness, and, of course, blueberry. Cletus (5057), Connecticut, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 3, 2007 Pours dark brown with a light brown head that turns tan as the head develops and sustains itself. Smells strongly of blueberries initially, but they seem to drop off and disappear after the initial pour. Smells of coffee, cocoa, pepper and some dark fruit as the beer settles and warms. Tastes of chocolate, coffee and spices. Blueberry flavor is there, but is very subtle and easy to overlook. Finishes slightly metallic with subtle spice and chocolate. Even though this isn’t as blueberry as I’d like it to be, it has a lot of depth and is very enjoyable for a dry stout. Bockyhorsey (2528), Mesa, Arizona, USA

Black with small tan creamy head. Blueberry’s witha mils sweet malt at first. Fruityness subsided a bit then the creamy rich chocolate flavor in the middle. Got a malty sweet shot of blueberry on the last gulp. Dry frutiy chocolate left on palate. Being a Badgers fan had to pick one from the fridge to toast the Gators thumping of those Buckeye’s. The beer looked amazing, poured dark brown almost black with fluffy thick dark brown head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and blueberries. A lot of chocolate, vanilla, and coffee in the flavor, some toffee, carmel, and blueberry syrup. Very tasty, nicely rounded out flavors. Mellow, fluffy, thick, yet extremely drinkable. love it. gearbike (417), West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA

Big wiff of blueberry but the blueberry is rather subdude in the taste. Medium body. Somewhat of a light fig type sweetness. Only bad thing about this beer is the label. sunevdj (1774), Copenhagen OE, Denmark

Smells og blueberries and toasted malts. Medium sweetness. Aromas of toasted malts. Also clear blueberry notes, especially towards the end of each sip. Maybe a bit medicin-like. Reminds me of the not-liquirish-notes of a Blå Gajol (not the drink). Dry toasted finish again with blueberry notes. Very nice mix, quite unusual... a bit too dry in the finish, maybe (minor detail). beerbill (1953), Laurel, New York, USA

Pours black with a large dark brown head that faded to a ring at mid-glass and left a semi-transparent brown film on the glass with each sip. The aroma of blueberries is very strong, especially right after the pour, with roasted malt and just a bit of chocolate. The flavor is mostly lightly roasted malt with subtle blueberry towards the finish. The blueberry becomes more apparent in the aftertaste and lingers for a few seconds beyond the swallow. Fairly smooth at the finish. Full bodied. A very enjoyable beer. ryan (1776), Beltsville, Maryland, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 12, 2005 Pours jet black with a creamy tan head that fades quickly. The aroma is big, roasty and smokey, chocolate, coffee and molases compliment the blueberries in the nose. The flavor starts out with roasted coffee, smoke and chocolate before blueberries show up mid-sip, the end is mostly blueberries. The finish is long and dry, with roasted bitterness. This is a nice stout, it could certainly start up on its own. The blueberries are component of the flavor, as opposed to dominating it. Well done.
