Nice black pour with a somewhat fizzy tan head, as usual a nice start for a DH stout. Letting the brew warm a little I get a nice whiff of blueberry muffins...some dark chocolate, roasted malts...some light sour coffee as well. The blueberry/malt element seem to stand out the most..but overall the aroma was fairly light. THe flavor seemded to have a bit more punch with juicy blueberry, roasty malts, dry dark chocolate...even some vinous elements come out in this one...a nice mix between savory and dry which makes this this one a winner for the evening of a hot day. Medium/somewhat thick body with a present yet soft carbonation. Roasty, toasty, juicy, and a bit bittersweet in and out until it comes to a head to the fruity/roasty/dry finish. Another exceptional stout from Dark Horse...if the rumors ARE true and this brewey is going to distro to Ohio...well... call me excited. As the beer warms the roastiness of the aroma ssems to stand out more as the fruit subsides. Real nice brew. mcbackus (748), Merritt Island, Florida, USA

Smell of malt, chocolate, caramel, blueberries, hops hint of coffee and raspberries. It smells like my all time favorite cereal, Boo Berry. Love the smell. Taste of malt, blueberries, coffee, coco, dark chocolate, copper, hops and a nice dry bitterness at the end. I really enjoyed the smell in this stout! Nice job! Thick dry chewy black malt aroma- mild chocolate with a licorice spiciness and very subtle blueberry- it’s presence is just right. Silky/fluffy feel on the palate. The flavor has dry rounded roast. Firm black malt body with subtle licorice and a soft natural blueberry presence. Touch of coffee roast. This brewer is one of the best when it comes to stouts! | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 13, 2008 Updated: Sep 10, 2009bottle by way of dragonstout. nice near black pour with a strange orange tinged head. aroma is cooked fresh blueberries, the way dried blueberries taste, chocolate, roasty grains and their ashiness. flavor is definitely dried blueberries (@ $27/pound!) mixed with chocolate, vanilla, high roasted grain and very light sweetness. dry fruity finish with notes of yeast. chocolate and blueberry flavors linger in the aftertaste. medium bodied but it has a insanely soft texture as it’s sloshed around. yeasty sludge at the bottom of the glass...cool. it works. well done...7/4/8/4/17/4.0
i can’t get the smell of dried blueberries off my mind...9/4/8/4/17/4.2 Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 2, 2007 Pours a glossy black with a thin cap of brown head that quickly diminishes to a small ring of bubbles that cling to the edge of the glass. The aroma smells almost exactly like the chocolate covered blueberries that I discovered on a trip to Victoria, BC. There’s just a hint of dark roasted malt in the mix, but the blueberries and chocolate dominate the nose. Nice. Medium-bodied and softly effervescent with a pleasant roasted finish. The flavor is of sweet roasted malt with solid blueberry and faint chocolate notes. I’m not quite sure why this one is categorized as a dry stout versus a sweet stout, but regardless of its classification, this is an exceptional brew. nuplastikk (1193), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 13, 2009 12oz bottle. Opaque black, maybe a hint of brown, with a beige head. Sweet, mellow chocolate blueberry aroma. The blueberry and chocolate really reach out and grab you after a few sips. With no alcohol warmth to compete, the mellow, roasty, blueberry laced malt really shines. A touch intense on the fruity side, I can see where this beer would draw it’s detractors. Light sourness, but mostly sweet overload. A classic, unique version of a Stout.
