heemer77 (3647), Savannah, Missouri, USA Apr 6, 2008 Perfectly black body with an orange and brown head. The smell makes me nostalgic as it reminds me of blueberry pancakes my parents made while we were camping. The taste is dominated by coffee and blueberries. There is also a little bit of anise. A nice sweet blueberry finish. An excellent beer and easily the best fruit flavored stout I have tried.
tmgiddings (6), , Indiana, USA does not count Aug 27, 2008 Oily, dark pour- You can already smell the blueberry pie. The dark tan head quickly cascades into something thin, tight, and solid. There is a considerable amount of sediment in this beer. Blueberry seeds? This brew smells like a warm piece of blueberry pie sitting besides a warm cup of coffee on the counter of a country diner. Personally, I was hoping for more fresh blueberry aroma. The taste was surprising given the nose. The blueberry flavor was very subtle and almost non-existent. Espresso was the strongest flavor, but it was mingled with coffee and bitter chocolate in the background. The Mouthfeel was thin-medium and oily. I was hoping to chew this piece of blueberry pie. Dogbrick (2217), Columbus, Ohio, USA Aug 20, 2008 Thanks to Rogueone for sharing a bottle, part of a Too-Tres-Fore-Plead The Fifth horizontal tasting. This beer pours brownish-black with a thin beige head that recedes quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of anise, malt and light blueberries. Medium, smooth body with flavors of roasted malt, licorice and subtle blueberries. Bits of chocolate at times too. The finish is roasty with a nice blueberry aftertaste. Normally nobody holds a candle to New Glarus when it comes to Fruit beers but this is very enjoyable, and easily the best fruited Stout I have had. phishpond417 (1409), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 20, 2008 Thanks to Beerhunter for this one: This beer pours a thick black opaque colour with hints of dark reddish brown. A nice full sized head cocoa brown head with aromas of blueberry pie, coffee and oatmeal. Mouthfeel was relatively creamy, flavors of blueberries, toffee, and chocolate syrup. Nice beer overall. sirpsycho (166), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 16, 2008 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown, virtually no head to speak of, even after trying to produce one. Very nice ripe blueberry aroma. Flavor lacks the punch of the aroma, blueberry is so very faint in the background, almost non-exsistent. Malt and touches of choclate. A well done dry stout. valpoaj (287), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA Aug 5, 2008 Pours a completely opaque black with a very nice deep tan head. Aroma is somewhat muted, but it is still full of fresh blueberry and is complemented nicely by some roasted/burnt malt accents. Flavor is very nicely done...lots of blueberry, but it is melded very well with sweet chocolate, burnt nut and malt flavors, some slight coffee notes, and ends with a strong dry, yet sweet note. Palate is well above average...very creamy and extremely smooth. Slight bitterness towards the end was a bit odd, but didn’t detract much. Overall this was a very nice offering...one of the rare beers I’ve had that hypes the blueberry, but does a great job melding it with other flavors.
