thewolf (3959), Kolding, Denmark May 8, 2008 Bottle, bought @ Utobeer Market Stand, London. [vintage 2007]
Pours almost black with a small, creamy, cappucino-beige head. Fine lacing. Aroma is rather light. Some semi-hard roasted malts, chocolate and light Java coffee. Mouthfeel is very creamy with quite low carbonation. Very vinious flavour, a bit sharp actually. Otherwise, this is a wonderful brew, lots of sweetish coffee, chocolate and liqourice and hard roasted malts.
fonefan (4850), Ulfborg, Denmark Aug 10, 2008 Bottle @ the Horse school WSF-08 afterparty in Opstal. Clear dark black color with a average, frothy, good lancing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, chocolate, alcohol notes. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily - smooth, carbonation is soft. (240508) Mitch_Wayne (111), Kokkola, Finland Aug 7, 2008 Quite simple impy and lacking the grace of many weaker ones. I mostly just taste and smell liquorice in this and there was something unpleasantly medicinal/liquerlike in this, maybe it is just the combination of anis and liquorice that rubs me the wrong way. downender (1609), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Jul 22, 2008 2007 Bottle from Utobeer. Cola coloured with a minimal tan head. Sweet aroma of milk chocolate, prunes, figs and some hard to place spice. Flavour had more sweet chocolate, along with roasted malt, vanilla and a touch more fruit. The finish had plenty of warming alcohol and a lot of dryness. Drinkable, but I preferred Harvey’s by a long way. goozen (763), Leiden, Netherlands Jul 19, 2008 Botle: Opaque black stout thats have its bitter moments and some chocolate, coffee and hints of plume. Doppelganger (1197), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Jul 9, 2008 Bottle, from Fin. Been looking for this one for ages—really kind of you to get this for me mate! Shiny black pour, sandy tan head. Cocoa, mahogany, chalk and cinnamon aroma. A little whiff of quinine around the edges. A sip: Mmmm. Red velvet cake. Coffee laced with rum. Chaser of chalk dust. Surprisingly light body for the abv. Lots of flavor and deceptively drinkable.
