Commercial Description:
Cask & Bottle Conditioned;
Imperial Stout is a truly special beer which harks back to the days when English brewers exported strong stouts and ports to the Baltics. Brewed with a high proportion of roasted barley and target hops, this is complex beer with a big flavour. Our bottle conditioned Imperial Stout has been aged at the brewery so you may enjoy it now, although it will continue to improve for many years.

2006 bottle. pours a thick fairly still-looking oily black with a thin brown head that sticks around awhile and leaves ok lace. boozy cocoa nose underpinned with dark fruity notes. creamy flavor with a nice complex of sweet roast flavors that never get all the way down to bitter coffee. livlier mouthfeel than appearence would indicate - maybe the bubbles just didn’t show in the thickness. nice effort.

Cask - The Bull, Horton Kirby. 10 months age, this pours a very dark brown, almost to the point of being black with a medium sized, frothy tan head, with great longevity though no lacing but an oily glass coating. Mostly sweet on the nose with toasted malts, vanilla and lots of milk chocolate. Warm and boozy, liquorice, roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee flavours. Quite diverse and intense, whacks the palate about. Thick, oily, soft and full bodied, coating on the tongue with a lasting dry, boozy roastiness. Om nom nom.

2007 Vintage. Pours a deep brown black with a brown head that dissipates to a wisp. Boozy aroma, with notes of red wine and roast. Full bodied with average to soft carbonation. Flavor if full of roast, anise, and prunes. Boozy and cardboard (oxidation) on the finish. Not that great, unless you like cardboard aged nyquil.

Bottle @ GBBF’09. Pours pitch black with a huge yet not that lasting brown head. The sweet roasted, milk chocolaty nose is a bit spoiled by a subtle veg note. The flavour is spicy chocolate, sweet caramel a bit boozy. Dry end.

11.2-oz. Thanks, Maria! Pours black with a loose and bubbly light tan head. Huge salty soy chocolatey and roasty nose. Very pruney as well. Creamy medium body. Some carb present, but very restrained. Coffee, prunes, roast, soy sauce, and salt on the mid-palate. Long salty finish.

Bottle from the brewery in Sussex. Deep brown stout with a tan head. Dark fruit aroma and hint of chocolate. Slightly sweet, liquorice, roasty taste, smooth drinking, pretty good.
