Crunchie (27), Somerset, England Jun 26, 2008 Delicious English interpratation of the Bamberg rauchbiers, more Spezial than Schlenkerla in someways, softer and less aggressive, with lightly smoky bacon and wood aromas mingling with malt and citrus hops, a rounded, balanced mouthfeel and flavour that carries on from the nose. A marriage of roasted, smoky and hop bitterness asks your brain for more, a full flavoured yet more sessionable version (unless you’re in Bamberg then 1 is the same as 10) and a great idea - clever brewing again from these guys. harrisoni (5121), Ashford, Kent, England Dec 3, 2007 Cask handpull at The Rake, Borough Market. A bit like a German Rauch but mixed with a good deep dark best bitter. Great condition. Magic_dave6 (3665), London, Greater London, England Dec 12, 2007 Cask in Blackfriars. Woo what a beer. Aroma is smokey bacon, smaoked malt, a backing of sweetish pale biscuity malt and some citrus and floral hints off the hops. Taste is full on, smokey, hints of wood, rich malts, quite a bit of citrus bite, loads of bittering hop. Pritty much full on smokey yet ESB mix thats really really good. Mes_and_Sim (4320), Highgate, Greater London, England Dec 22, 2007 A Mes rate: Gravicask at Pigs Ear. very red mid brown colour with a tenacious beige head. Malt, spice and wheaty bread aroma with stunning smoky notes. Flavour is more of the same. The smoked character is totally individual and unlike any other I have tried. Beautiful autumnal spicy finish. Quite dry. Lovely all round. chimp_lechamp (344), glasgow, Scotland Jan 7, 2008 cask blackfriars, pours brown with a beige milky head smells smoked hickory and some earth. its smell doesnt lead on to the intense flavours tastes smokey but not an unappetizing campfire smoke it is more appealing like a smoked fish. sweet malt bread flavour, balances the taste. some bitter citrussy hops in the finish. this is a quality drop.
