duff (5403), Sydney, Australia, Surrey, England Jan 31, 2008 Cask@Pigs Ear BF. Nice stuff, smokey and also spicey as well. This was quite soft, yet showed some good length of flavour with the smokyness. I think it was in really good condition as well. A nice one for sure.
Crunchie (26), Somerset, England Jun 26, 2008 Delicious English interpratation of the Bamberg rauchbiers, more Spezial than Schlenkerla in someways, softer and less aggressive, with lightly smoky bacon and wood aromas mingling with malt and citrus hops, a rounded, balanced mouthfeel and flavour that carries on from the nose. A marriage of roasted, smoky and hop bitterness asks your brain for more, a full flavoured yet more sessionable version (unless you’re in Bamberg then 1 is the same as 10) and a great idea - clever brewing again from these guys. mjs (422), Finland Apr 15, 2008 (From old notes. Cask at Pikkulintu on 2007-12-31.) The nose and taste both contain clear smoke aroma. Nice hops in taste which has got some roasted malt in it, too. Towards the end I think I began to taste even burned malt there which was a bit annoying. chimp_lechamp (324), glasgow, Scotland Jan 7, 2008 cask blackfriars, pours brown with a beige milky head smells smoked hickory and some earth. its smell doesnt lead on to the intense flavours tastes smokey but not an unappetizing campfire smoke it is more appealing like a smoked fish. sweet malt bread flavour, balances the taste. some bitter citrussy hops in the finish. this is a quality drop. Mes_and_Sim (3927), London, Greater London, England Dec 22, 2007 A Mes rate: Gravicask at Pigs Ear. very red mid brown colour with a tenacious beige head. Malt, spice and wheaty bread aroma with stunning smoky notes. Flavour is more of the same. The smoked character is totally individual and unlike any other I have tried. Beautiful autumnal spicy finish. Quite dry. Lovely all round.
