Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
Cauldron Snout was originally brewed at the High Force Hotel in Forest-in-Teesdale. When the brewery closed the brand was passed onto Darwin to keep the legend alive. Cauldron Snout is often classed as a strong stout, but in reality was brewed as a dark old ale to help warm up the cold winter nights in Teesdale.
A prize winning old ale. Dark and complex with a solid body lingering into a long aftertaste. Bitterness is perfectly matched to the dark malts with persist to provide a spicy and peaty ending.

Chocolate and sweet black coffee notes as expected. Sweet and sour with a long bitter finish on the palate. A good example of the style.

Bottle. Classy. Deep brown, almost black. Slightly vinous nose, a little bit smoky/roasty. Medium bodied, but shows a good length of flavour. Palate is smoky/roasty and dry, with some slight acidity and bitterness in the finish. Subtle hint of grapes, and i will agree that there is a slight chalkyness. Some aniseed in there aswell. Really well balanced. This IS really classy.

Cask at Reading Beer Festival. Black in colour, malty, coffee nose. Bit thin in mouth, but oily coating of the gums. Really good coffee malts on the aftertaste. Oily dry finish
