beastiefan2k (1590), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA Sep 6, 2009 10th rater, lets make this beer official. Sampler @ the brewpub, a full pour would be hard to take. The color is a hazy yellow/golden color with some random carbonation bubbles visible. Aroma is sweet vanilla from the combination of alcohol and malts. There is a light herbal and grassy aspect to it from the few hops peaking past the malts. There is a light earthy and musty heft to it. The flavor has more alcohol coming out, its a bit of a peachy-like alcohol. There is a bit of a weak feel and flavor and that is topped off by a hefty alcoholic and white bread maltiness. In general there is a bit of a rumble tumble feel to the beer, not well balanced despite tasting good. Just needs some more lagering to even out the alcoholic edges. But I would have this again as blond doppelbocks are few and far between. Tripplebrew (486), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Oct 1, 2008 Pours a honey lemon yellow with white head. Aroma is sour, lemony/citrus. Flavor is a bit sour and tart with hops with citrus malty undertones. Creamy body with light carbonation. grimreeser (795), Minnesota, USA Aug 14, 2008 Sampler. Hazy gold. Light fruity and citrus aroma. Very sweet, almost too sweet for me. Different, solid. tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Aug 10, 2008 This wasn’t even available on tap but the brewmaster was able to give us a generous free sample, as a bonus. Score! This pours a hazy yellow with a creamy pillowy head. Tangy lemongrass, along with some sweet buttery sugar flavor. I was pretty impressed with this brew. A very nice blonde doppel for sure. akevitt (97), Valhalla, Minnesota, USA Apr 16, 2008 Growler courtesy of Skyview. The beer was golden with very little foam. Not a typical blonde dopplebock. The sweet caramel malt that one would expect to taste is barely present. I think my rating would improve if I got to try this on tap. joebrew (608), Farewell Minny; Hello Puyallup, Washington, USA Oct 8, 2007 Growler courtesy of Skyview. Pours a deep golden color. Slightly biscuity sweetness on the nose with a touch of an almost earthy hoppiness. Fairly simple and sweet with a lack of depth. Not their best beer. JK (2945), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Sep 15, 2007 From a growler. I am disapointed in this beer and it is the weakest I have had from this brewery. A gold doppelbock. Light caramel and grass aroma Low carbonation, just a little sweet and malty. Not really hearty but seems thin and more like a strong lager than a bock. islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Sep 2, 2007 Updated: Aug 10, 2008Original rating, 9-2-07, 2007 edition: 1/2 liter pour on tap at the brewpub. Lemony, slightly sour, floral, yeasty aroma that suffers from being a bit "beery" (i.e., aroma somewhat like that of a typical American macro lager). Pours a hazy gold with a moderate amount of fluffy, off-white head. Pleasant, sugary, buttery aroma with a hint of peach. Improves on multiple sips. Delicious. Medium to full body. Lively and sharp in the palate; good bite, but very drinkable nonetheless, especially for such a strong beer. This is yet another very strong product from a very good brewpub.

Re-rate, 8-8-08, 2008 edition: Special approximately 5-6 oz. sample from the brewer. Sweet, yeasty, light, pleasant aroma features apricot scent. Pours a deep gold with a moderate to large amount of fluffy, white head. Sweet, fruity taste features orange, red apple, and candy apple flavors with a touch of lemon sourness. Medium body (heavy by lager standards). I like this beer, but I liked it better the first time I had it. I’ll keep the higher, original rating as the official one.
