Commercial Description:
Sometimes called "Hefeweissbier," this is the famous Bavarian ale served in tall, vase-shaped glasses. "Weizen" means wheat and refers to the fact that this beer must contain at least 50% wheat malt in its grain bill. "Hefe" means yeast and points out that the beer is unfiltered and cloudy, served in its natural state. Our classic Hefeweizen has the traditional clove and banana taste, produced by specific esters during its warm fermentation.

Pours a slightly hazey golden colour with a fluffy top. Sampled this two different ways. The first way was warmer then the second. Huge difference in everything. Fruity and bananna notes come out full force with the warmth of the beer (dur, makes sense). Pineapple and lemon zest. Aroma is super pleasent in every aspect. It’s so great to finally taste german brew that is so close to it’s style.

Pours a very hazy very lemon yellow with thin white head. Aroma is nutty notes/almond mixed with lemon and bitter notes similar to the kind of citrus fruits. Flavor is tart lemon with yeast notes. Definite tart flavor. Body is creamy light with fair carbonation.

Tap. Pours a hazy sunshine yellow. Crisp wheat notes, followed by a bit of bitter citrus zest. Dry finish. Well carbonated. Mild banana notes. Lingering zesty finish. Light bodied.

Sampler. Aroma of banana, wheat, and citrus. Nice flavor, sweet and tart. A liitle bit more Berliner weiss than hefe.

As this is one of my favorite styles, I tend to be fairly critical of it. Banana, clove, and bubblegum aromas with some faint lemon. Spritzy texture, highly carbonated. Filtered, which I don’t prefer. Fairly average hefe, nothing mind blowing.

July 2nd, 2008 Sample platter. Toasted straw or hay like aroma. With a white head that mostly diminished. Nice yellow brew with a slight hazyness on a count of the yeast. Medium body and nice carbonation. A great drinker.

Sep 29, 2007 Draught at the brewpub. The beer had the appearance of lemonade. It was lightly carbonated with a moderate amount of foam. Banana, wheat, and yeast were present in the aroma and flavor. It had a banana/wheat finish. It was lighter on the palate than most hefe’s, but not in a watered down way. Very thirst quenching! I could drink this all day!

A good beer, but not as good as the dunkelweizen. Fairly clear, especially for the style. I like a cloudy, yeasty hefeweizen. Fairly light aroma with wheat, citrus, some banana. The flavor has similar qualities. More wheat, banana, citrus. The flavor is right but it is too light, and I would like this to be a little sweeter with a heavier and thicker palate. A good beer, but made me think of a kristalweizen rather than a hefeweizen.
