Commercial Description:
Often called "Oktoberfestbier," this amber lager is actually the classic style from Vienna, Austria. It has a bright copper color and a big body, but no obtrusive hop aroma as is often found in amber beers elsewhere. The Das Bierhaus Oktoberfest is like our regular Märzen but with more malt flavor, darker color and higher alcohol level.

Sep 29, 2007 Draught at the brewpub. The beer was a light caramel brown color. I got a lot of caramel malt in the aroma and flavor. It was a very bock-ish Oktoberfest beer.

(growler, thanks Skyview) Pours dark copper with an off-white head. Grainy aroma, with some caramel malt in there as well. Flavor is caramel, slight hops, with a grainy finish. Medium bodied, pretty good stuff.

Growler courtesy of Skyview. Pours a nice deep reddish brown. Nice sweet malt on the nose with a touch of floral and roasted biscuity sweetness. Nice medium body with a nice dose of the roasted malt and honey like malt sweetness. A solid beer, as I have come to expect from these guys.

[Growler, courtesy of Skyview] Pours dark reddish amber. Aroma is grainy with some caramel. Taste is Medium-light mouthfeel. Taste is very similar to the aroma with a lot more of the roasted grain taste and some muted hops. Long finish. My first Das Bierhaus beer, and it was a pretty good one.

A murky brown color with lightly roasted malt on the nose with some caramel. Caramel and roasted malt flavor with the usual mineral/earthiness from the water that helps make such wonderful beer. Sweet body. On tap at the brewery.

Draught at the brewpub. A hazy brown colored beer. The aroma has caramel and roasted malt. The flavor is similar, with more caramel, roasted malt, and an unusual but good, dry finish. Great thick palate, and the beer appears to be unfiltered, which I like.

Visited Das Bierhaus in Menomonie, Wisconsin for the first tapping of their Oktoberfest on September 28. This Oktoberfest-style Märzen pours a semi-hazy dark golden amber brew with a very thick off-white head that dissolves to a fine film and white ring. Aroma of dark roasted caramel malt, some dried fruity character, a touch of candi sugar and a hint of flowery hops. Taste is lightly carbonated, medium body, caramel malt with some dried fruity flavor. Very little bitterness if any. Finish is smooth, creamy and slightly fruity. Thought this has a little extra alcohol compared to their regular Märzen, it is well hidden in flavor and finish. Well done!
