akevitt (97), Valhalla, Minnesota, USA Apr 16, 2008 Growler from Skyview. Great example of a Christmas Bock! The beer was dark brown with thick tan foam. I detected malt and faint Christmas spices in the flavor and aroma. The beer was a bit on the dry side for being a doppelbock. But, this was not a detractor. Palate-wise it was thick like a milkshake. BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Jan 11, 2008 Malty nose that was quickly recognizable as a doppelbock. Dry and not too sweet and the doppelbock recipie seems to override the interesting mineral tinge that the water gives every other Das Bierhaus beer I’ve tried. Still, A very good beer. JK (2945), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Dec 21, 2007 A very good doppelbock. It is loaded with malt, with lots of roasted flavor. Black, and low carbonation. Exceptionally smooth and thick on the palate, I can’t remember when I had a bock with such a great palate. The only thing it is missing is sweetness and caramel. Very dry for a bock, but an expertly made beer anyway. Thanks to Skyview for sharing. badgerben (3584), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Dec 20, 2007 Growler from Skyview. Dark brown color with a medium head. Very dusty hop aroma. Thick malt taste with a bone dry and chalky finish. Slightly bitter. Good, but missing the screaming sugar typical of a dopplebock. KAF (441), Coralville, Iowa, USA Dec 19, 2007 Growler courtesy of Skyview. This was delicious. Poured dark off brown with a nice finger thick off white head. Roasted malt aroma with a flavor of slight chocolate. Are there any bad beers by this Brewery because I have not had one yet! Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Dec 12, 2007 Received an early release of the Das Bierhaus seasonal doppelbock as it was served on draught at the brewpub in Menomonie, WI. Pours a hazy dark caramel amber brew with a thick and creamy off-white head that has excellent retention and lacing. Aroma of slightly smoked Munich dark malt, a touch of chocolate and dark bread scents. Taste is medium bodied, very light carbonation with flavors of dark roasted malty bread with some chocolate and a touch of pumpernickel. Finish is creamy smooth with a slightly dry and mild bitter aftertaste. The extra alcohol helps bring this winter warmer close to the heart. Most excellent.
