Commercial Description:
Cask: Special - Wetherspoon Festival November 2009
This golden cask lager has been brewed especially for this JDW beer festival (Oct-Nov 2009), using a carefully prepared lager malt and three varieties of German Hallertau hops, giving a light bitterness and a taste which is clean, with a tangy edge.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond, Reading] Hazy yellow, no head. Vague citrus and light malts. Very dull.

Cask in the Alfread herring. Alround rating: Pale caramel sweet malt, a bit buttery, little grassy hop, but its on the sweetside of balance and fairly boring.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Pale gold / straw with white head. little aroma due to the fact that it was freezing cold. Thin, light lagery notes, pleasant enough if you enjoy bland beer, almost artificially sweet, but then a grainy, cereal note forces through to make it drinkable and a touch of tangy hop finish. Saved in the last few minutes.

A Mes rate. Cask at Baker Street ’Sporks.
My god this is uneventful. It’s one of those beers that make me wonder why I bother. Not close to good enough to finish drinking, not bad enough to have a real laugh at. Just a shining example of British mediocrity. Yes it’s a cask lager. Too sweet to do what it needs too and not enough character to get anyone to move from macro keg lager. Not that this isn’t better. I just dont see the point. No sign of any Hallertau, nor anything else to find interesting. NEXT!

Blonde cask lager, mild and slightly dry, straw like flavour, mini hops, not much else. A little dull but drinkable.

Handpulled cask at JDW Watford. Gold with thin white head. A good example of why keg lagers often taste better than cask. Stale, flat and diactyl laden.

JDW Rochester. Clean drinkable beer. Quite dry with a faint jammy sweetness. OK.
