downender (1602), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Mar 31, 2007 275ml bottle @ 7.1% ABV. Pale amber beer with aroma of caramel. Flavour is very sweet with toffee prominent. This is to the point of being overpowering and a half pint was enough. An interesting, unusual beer though. johndoughty (1660), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England Dec 28, 2003 Produced by Highgate brewery in Walsall which is owned by Aston Manor brewery in Birmingham. It claims to be the same recipe that Davenports brewery in Birmingham used before it was taken over and closed down in the nineteen eightees.I have happy memories of drinking the original but my memory is not so good as to confirm that this is exactly the same. All I can say is that this is a sweet strong golden coloured pale ale with a high alcohol content that you are made aware of from the start. After a while the sweetness does become a little sickening but overall this is an unusual and interesting beer.It is not very easy to obtain -even the brewers own site doesn't mention it! Which is a pity as it deserves to be better known.
