Commercial Description:
Unlike many other unblended oude lambik, there exists both draft and bottled versions of De Cam Oude Lambiek.

Please note the age of the sample you are reviewing when entering your rating. While many factors determine whether you have had "Jonge" or "Oude" Lambik, a general rule of thumb is to enter 1 year-old or older lambik under "De Cam Oude Lambiek" and anything less than 6 months-old under "De Cam Jonge Lambiek".

For those between 6 and 12 months of age, you should take in to consideration the character of the lambik. Samples presenting themselves as hazy/cloudy, with some head-formation and residual sugar should be entered as "Jonge Lambik", while those that are drier, higher in clarity and with little/no head formation should be entered as "Oude Lambik". If in doubt, message JorisPPattyn.

A real nice lambiek. Barnyard, acidic, lemon and musty in the nose. Tastes also like balsamico vinegar and a bit cheesy, some wood, lemon and green apples. Complex and refreshing beer.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm 29 April) – Unclear dark golden, big bubbled white head; medium sized nose, quite deep, could be a little more complex: overripe apple, overripe pear but also a little wood and some fresh green apples; the body is very soft (a little to soft), a little watery, very little bitterness; the finish is medium long, it is a bit more sour and tart, then the body: some green apples as well but more sour grapefruit. A very plesant surprise.

(Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm 29 Apr) Colour is dark brown with orange notes, hazy, almost no head. Nose is acidic and musty with hints of stable, leather, horse and some nutty almond notes. Some sulphur in the beginning, but it disappears after a while. Taste is musty, surprisingly fruity, acidic and harsh, initially some sweetness and some bitterness in the finish. Very complex and nice.

Bottle - corked and caged. Februari 2001 vintage. Apple juice in color with almost no head. Nose is VERY sour. Tart fruits, lemon juice, wet dog, damp moldy basement, and the deep forest after rainfall. Taste is slightly less tart than the aroma would let on. Wet wood, sour fruits, light vinegar notes, lemon juice, barnyard and light cat urine. Body is dry, tart and very acidic. Finishes with lots of wet woodiness, lemon juice, damp basement and barnyard notes. Very nice!

Bottledate March 2000. Hazy orange colour with almost no head at all. Barnyard aroma. Very smooth flavor and sour. Some lemon too. Hints of wood too. Long sour aftertaste.

Bottledate February 2001 and brewed 5 years before, so about 10 years old lambiek. Surprised to find that there was still some gas left in the bottle. Hazy orange with a fine small head. Lemony aroma is very present, oakiness is just in the background. Complex flavours of lemons and wood, the finish even has some nuttiness. Very dry. Soft texture. Definitely a special occasions beer.
