BeerBelcher (698), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Mar 27, 2008 This beer was pleasant and certainly unique, but had a rather strong grainy-cereal note to it that I didn’t especially care for. On the other hand, it did have a peach-apricot fruitiness that I liked quite a bit. Sort of a mixed bag for me.
This beer was a cloudy tan color with a medium amount of off-white head. There was some sediment at the end of the bottle, but its appearance and quantity were nothing to get worked up about. Aroma was a malty, yeasty (thought I got some Brett-funk), and a bit fruity. Flavor was predominantly malt with kind of a lot of cerealness and a finish that was either peach or apricot. Mouthfeel was pretty viscous for what was a fairly light-drinking beer.
Not bad, and quite a bit different than other Belgian beers I’ve had in recent memory, but not really lip-smacking delicious either. Still, I’d recommend based on the uniqueness alone.
I had a bottle of this at the Palm Tavern in Milwaukee.
douglas88 (612), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Jul 19, 2008 Bottle bought at Sams in Chicago, and drank at 1130 before a wedding. Pours a cloudy orange with a thick and very powerful head. Mountainous. The aroma is full of yeast, spices, and tons of alcohol. The flavor was mostly a rich and full spice profile, along with tons of yeast, apples, and a very dry finish. Great. Skeegle (293), USA Jul 16, 2008 What a beer. Pours a thick cloudy mud-yellow color that can be likened to the color of plum flesh. The flavors are incredibly dry and incredibly tart and crisp. Flavors of bubble gum, balloon air, lemony leather and apple skins. Not much hop profile at all, but that’s to be expected. A wonderfully done beer once again. MuttyD (39), Cambridge, USA Jul 15, 2008 Aroma is of apples, citrus fruit, cookie, and plums. Flavor is the same. Golden/amber color. Bubbly on the palate with a bitter and sour finish. jcr (809), Jasper, Indiana, USA Jul 13, 2008 Bottle. A moderately bitter bite cuts through the fruity sweetness and clove spiciness for a well-balanced and complex beer. Huge, rocky, white head that lasts. The body is hazy and dark yellow. The aroma is fulll of clove, honey, lemon, pineapple, mustiness and flowers. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter, but the finish turns moderately bitter and then somewhat sour. Medium body and velvety texture with lots of carbonation. Real craftsmanship is evident in the ability of the beer to present so many aromas and flavors without having them trip over and run into each other. Excellent.
Yves (276), Beerse, Belgium Jul 13, 2008 Blond coloured beer with large white head. In the beginning an uncontrolable head. I had my work to stabalise it ;-). Only few carbonation. Hoppy aroma. Full palate. Finish is hoppy and a little herby.
