Commercial Description:
Boskeun is the nickname of Jo, one of the two brothers who preferred to brew blond beer at home. It is a special Easter beer, one of the first real Belgian Easter beers. (Slaghmuylder's paasbier being first). It has been brewed with pale malt, Golding hops, cane sugar and refermented with native honey. As it is a seasonal beer we suggest not to keep it eternally. The name Boskeun means rabbit of the wood (virgin wood, maybe?) and the label shows it, sampling the last brew.

cloudy orange color with a off white head. Slight ginger/sweet taste. Honey used in the mash, but I could not taste it. Not enough going on here.

Bottle. Lightly sweet yeast and alcohol nose, orange copper pour with a full, yeast-driven, rocky, smooth, tiny-bubbled beige head. Touch of honey. Taste is honeyish and meadish, warmth and heft form the alcohol and a big wallop from / dollop of pale malt; yeast again plays the lead role. Woody dryness with the light, classy bitterness this brewer is known for, a hint as candi but only a hint. Lightly spiced and faintly floral. Peach, orange peel, perfumed bubblegum, all in lesser strength. Medium body is crisp throughout and reminds of a fluffy, carbonated Slip ’n’ Slide. Really a good blend, and the first burp was divine. Reminds me of a fruitier, subtler tripel. Classy, complex, and well-made.

Dark golden pour. Thin white head, rapidly receding and leaving light lace. The aroma is lightly funky, with notes of various citrus fruit, cane sugar, pear juice, spice, pepper, banana, yeast and honey wheat. The flavor is mildly acidic, lightly sweet, mildly sour and lightly bitter. Good balance and quite the personality. Citric notes and acidity grow with each taste, leading to a medium-dry finish with plenty of yeast lingering. Mouthfeel is wild, highly carbonated and fun. Very good and certainly unique. I expect nothing less from De Dolle.

Bottle @ Le Bier Circus, Brussels. Pours a rather nice yellowish-brown. The aroma is some mix of malt, fruit, and some other candy characteristics. Taste is very malty with some fruit, chocolate, and candy notes included. Very nice spring beer and another winner from De Dolle.

330, courtesy TheWolf. Thanks, René! Pours gorgeous, seriously murky caramelly-looking amber. Big luscious sweet nose of apple, caramel, candi sugar, and other sticky whipped delights. Body’s soft and well under control; no oil or stickiness at all. Refreshing-feeling, with nice light soft carb. Sugars start crowding the tongue almost right away. Body’s got hay, floral, and all the aforementioned sugary notes. This one got a wee bit oxidized in transit across the pond in July, so there’s some aluminum there at the end, but it’s still delicious through and through. Score!

Pretty tart for a Belgian strong, almost like a high octane wit. Pale and a bit cloudy, it’s got a very grassy aroma with some bitters at the end. Farmhouse squared? Very lovely palate, with a full froth like a good tripel, but there’s something just a tad indistinct about the flavors, given how dominant the bitters are.

Smells of sugar (after pouring the beer, if you smell inside the bottle this aroma hits you in the nose), and fruit; a citrus fruit, or a peach i’d say. A little more pungent that Stille Nacht. Very carbonated, and this I believe actually takes away from the taste, maybe too carbonated? Has a subtle spice and ctirus flavor. The beer actually finishes with a distinct bitter flavor. Decent taste. Great color, a nice golden/brown/orange. Decent beer.
