SPicy belgian yeast aroma with some earthy, anise notes as well. Tart and a bit vinous as well, mild fruitiness. Flavor is a continuation of the aroma, Spicy vinous flavor with alcohol warming and a spicy yeastiness. A sweetness of candi sugar. I agree with PilsnerPete below, definitely pear fruitiness and some mild herbal tones. Finish is dry. Tastey Strong Ale PilsnerPeter (2667), Flushing, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 19, 2009 Bottle: Hazy golden with a huge frothy white head. Very champagne yeast aroma- vinous, muscat notes with just a touch of Belgian pale malt underneath the tart fruity yeast character. There’s also some spicy presence of anise or fennel- complex aromatics. Frothy voluminous carbonation with a note of alcohol in the body. Vinous flavor as well with a muscat grape note at the fore followed by a warming alcohol note. Some pear like fruitiness as well with some spicy phenolics coming through toward the back as well as a mild herbal note and residual mineral dryness. Great yeast character- a vinous & elegant Belgian Strong Ale. wetherel (1641), Encinitas, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 9, 2009 Bottle from beer store in Colorado Springs. Aroma somewhere between a saison and belgian yeast. Muted hop bitterness and aroma. Light sweetness. Overflowing huge head fills 2/3 of the glass, despite the beer being cold. Still very nice. Alcohol somewhat noticable initially, but fades to a more easy drinkability as the carbonation excapes. obguthr (1069), Poquoson, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 17/20 | Sep 3, 2009 Faint pear and clove aroma. Cloudy yellow, enormous billowy, white head. Alcohol is obvious and magnified. It tastes of lemon, pear, and copious amounts vanilla, with a liqueur feel. Balanced lemon and lemon zest finish. Harsh mouthfeel. Good transitions and alcohol becomes less overbearing as the glass warms trevor211 (518), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 30, 2009 This one has a really nice blend of sweet and dry. Pours a light yellow-orange with a giant head. Candied lemon and other citrus dominate the aroma - there’s a lot of sweetness even on the nose, and the honey is very present. Sweet, spicy flavors bring candied ginger to mind, and this has a really effervescent mouthfeel - seriously strong carbonation. Covers the 10% beautifully. A touch of light haze as well. The beer really does look incredible. The nose has a lovely rustic note. A touch of lemony citrus and a kiss of mint as well. Soft sweetness throughout with a bit of pineapple character. Light lingering herbal spiciness. Lovely brew. bikesandbeers (468), Los Angeles, California, USA
