Commercial Description:
Boskeun is the nickname of Jo, one of the two brothers who preferred to brew blond beer at home. It is a special Easter beer, one of the first real Belgian Easter beers. (Slaghmuylder's paasbier being first). It has been brewed with pale malt, Golding hops, cane sugar and refermented with native honey. As it is a seasonal beer we suggest not to keep it eternally. The name Boskeun means rabbit of the wood (virgin wood, maybe?) and the label shows it, sampling the last brew.

this is the kind of confection i wish i’d have found lying around the living room on easter. being a crusty middle-aged agnostic though-- tending dogs rather than children-- i’m much more likely to find a stray turd on the rug than any tempting token of spring such as this. tasted well beyond the pasque, bos keun does indeed brighten a rainy summer twilight: crisp and cooling as soda, and as warm as the business end of a burly cigar with it’s fiery alcoholic component. in the glass, the easter bunny brought me this pour of murky medicinal pale yellow-brown, like a compote of primitive paper pulps: papyus and rice starch, with drifting chunks of residue as formidable as flakes of cracked pepper corns. fortunately it gains in visual allure with it’s cap of thick snowy foam-- white as the summits of the most lofty new zealand alps. with carbonation at first as bristly as a wire brush, the beer councils patience-- let this crazy jack rabbit tire itself out in the glass for a few minutes and it’ll go as gentle as a worn out puppy. while waiting i inhaled an aroma of banana and dried pineapple over whiskey-- it just misses smelling like a tropical-parasol drink. fruity as carmen miranda’s hat, everything unapologetically sweet amidst a maternity ward of cornucopic fertility, in the flavor it describes likenesses of bitter lemon and cool damp cellar stone, with peach schnapps and honey-drenched sopapillas, snappy white pepper with soft dove-like cooing of creamy palate. full and gorgeous, it’s as celebratory as the vernal warming after a long winter.

Bottle at Cambrinus, Bruges. Hazy copper, thick beige head. Attractive yeast aroma. Citrus, lovely and full in mouth. Another good beer from De Dolle. Spicey finish.

Bottle. High white and lasting head. Hazy orange body. Grape fruit like aroma. Fruity at the beginning, hoppy at the end.

33cl bottle. HUGE tan head that takes forever to disintegrate into a rocky foam. Murky yellowy brown pour. Nose is complex - yeasty, fruity, spicy - lots going on! Flavor is similar, more yeasy and fruity. Light sour apple and caramel notes are present. Very nice!

pours a hazy amber/light brown with a big off white head and heavy carbonation, with seems to be a staple with the De Dolle brews. Aroma is very spicy and earthy yeast. Taste is lemons, spices, yeast, with a nice tart balancing finish.

33cl. bottle: A hazy cross between a dark golden and lighter amber color. There was a bit of a head on it which leaves some lacing. Yeasty/bready nose. Also notes of fruits: possible sour apples. The taste is semi sweet. Some notes of sour apples, caramel malts. Slightly lighter body than expected. Nice.
